The Lyrics

I don't frequent the internet chat rooms, but I'm kind of concerned by the presumption in the 'popular' press that if you're my age (i.e. in your 30s), then simply hanging out on a site frequented by youngsters immediately classifies you as, at best, a worrying weirdo (or if you read the News of the World, someone who should be locked up without trial).
You're so hot, teasing me
Can't repeat what you say, there's no way that we should ever meet
Not even out on the street
Don't tell me your address
I can guess the distress if your parents found out that I'd dialled
'Cause girl you're only a child

[Chorus:]
Well I can chat with you honey
If you think it's funny
Does your mother know you're on-line?
And ICQ, little baby
Flirt a little maybe
Does your mother know you're on-line?

Use a smiley (use a :-) )
Go no further girl
Am I some weirdo
Do you want to know
Maybe cheesey (maybe :-D )
Don't be foolish girl
Ain't no way to go
Does your mother know?

No, you won't understand
If I'm slow, don't you know that I'm typing with only one hand
Maybe I'm that kind of man
Now you're so cute, I like your style
Am I mean or obscene or I could be a p- paedophile
'Cause girl you're only a child

[Chorus]

Use a smiley (use a :-) )
Go no further girl
Am I some weirdo
Do you want to know
Maybe cheesey (maybe :-D )
Don't be foolish girl
Ain't no way to go
Does your mother know?

[Chorus to fade]

This was a pretty good parody. The pacing gets a 4, the funiness gets a 4, and overall gets a 5.

GJ - Yes, I'm 36
Leb - That's pretty much what I thought: it's not hilariously funny, but it is a worthwhile subject, and a message worth saying. I get these urges at times to write things like this ;-)

Good stuff. There's a lot of misplaced hysteria on this subject.

If ABBA never released "Does your mother know" back in the day, I'm sure the song with these lyrics could be taken just as seriously today!

Topical, well-paced and funny...plus I like and know the original. Keep up the good work!

Phil, didn't know the song but looked in just to see what it was about because it has the same title as a Gordon Lightfoot song I was thinking of doing. This is a vexing topic. One should be free to go wherever on the 'Net but when I find myself somewhere where it's all kids I might read a little just to see what's on their minds but then I'm outta there. (53, by the way). OH, I would have to say it appears that Lightfoot's song is quite a bit different from ABBA's.

This is my favourite ABBA song of all time, and I thought that this parody was hilarious. I can just imagine a bunch of 30-something fat bearded virgins in Florida bopping away to this whilst trying to scout some kids chat-room on Yahoo!, now that the MSN ones have since closed. Beware! Big Brother is watching you.......
