The Lyrics

When I lived in L.A., we heard about something called "Greyhound therapy" where other cities would solve their homeless problem by chipping in to buy them a one way bus ticket to Los Angeles. Problem solved! Also, I don't think anyone has done this song yet.
I see the homeless in the night
They're part of every city's blight
I know that each one of us pays
Bums move out, bums move in
Every day

Those guys wake up at every dawn
And make a movement on the lawn
Hang out with signs by the freeway
Bums hand out, coins go in
Every day

And there they are
Taking it up, but you're sure that it's for a bar
And Oy! You'll see
It's an intrusion sitting down in front of me
And then you'll say
Every time you shall yell "Go away!"
And then you'll see
Yet another face living in here for free

And one peculiar bum near me
A roll of many ones I see
As funds are gathered, it's not so strange
They sit out, coins come in
They sit out, coins come in
Perpetual change

And there they are
Singing a sorry tune, and sleep in cars
When all you see
Is some old geezer glaring down on you and me
And now he's standing
Pushing a cart that is full of old cans
And all you see
At your job the boss controlling you and me

They want perpetual change.
They want perpetual change.

And there they are
Taking it up, but you're sure that it's for a bar
And Oy! You'll see
It's an intrusion sitting down in front of me
And then you'll say
Every time you shall yell "Go away!"
And then you'll see
Yet another face living in here for free

Those homeless folks are all the same
Play poverty like it's a game
They move right down to old L.A.
Palm side out, looking thin
Palm side out, looking thin
Every day

DKTOS, Rick - but I had to look, since I, of course, live in L.A. - no truth to the rumor that I arrived here under this scenario...at least not as far as I can recall ~ ~ ~
