The Lyrics

I'm not sure exactly what possessed me to write a parody about as un-funny a topic as gang members killing each other ... but here it is anyway.
I saw a hoodlum with an automatic in his hand
Walking through the streets of Lynwood with his boys
They were looking for a fight on the South Side
First they had to hit the surplus store, get some toys

Ka-boom ... gang wars of Compton
Ka-boom (2x)

If you hear them prowling your residential street
Barricade yourself in
Neighbor's old lady got beat up, nearly raped last night
Gang wars of Compton to blame

Ka-boom ... gang wars of Compton
Ka-boom (2x)

They're the Uzi-packing hoods this side of Hollywood
Lately seems they've raised some hell even there
Better get away from them
They'll rob your store again
Ugh, or firebomb your trailer

Ka-boom ... gang wars of Compton
Ka-boom (2x)

Well, I saw Li'l Davey thugging with the Kings
Toting an AK through Compton
I saw one ghetto cruiser, bright metallic green
Used in a drive-by in Compton
I saw a gang war hitting the 7-Eleven on Sunset Strip
The ground was crimson

(Ka-boom) Gang wars of Compton
Draw blood
(background music is replaced by automatic gunfire and unintelligible shouting)
(c) 2006 Jay the Wannabe Mustang Jockey ....... yay me.

A good story depicting our violent times

I hope they have a decathlon for Horror soon-you would be a slam dunk on it with parodies like this, 5s

Actually, this is very much in the realm of Zevon. I think wherever he is... assuming, now being dead, he's not asleep... he would approve. And since he brought it up... Yoiiii-dyyyy! Come out and play-yay!

(SOTM) Lynwood, CA is probably not a bad a neighborhood as Compton, yo. :) A little repetitive on "Compton" in the verses, but funny (if sick).

(SOTM) Wow... If you can get laughs with a serious subject, then... dang, that is remarkable. I loved the title sub and the lyrics. This was very Zevonesque and I think he would have approved of this parody. And about Lynwood, you can be gangsta all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that you're still white & nerdy. 555

SOTM-well I already commented above, but I wanted to leave an actually SOTM comment as well, I think this song is among the upper half of the entries, it's going to be tough to pick the bottom couple, with 4 songs still to go, there are 6 already I've marked as candidates for my points. . .this is one of them. . .excellent work here.

SOTM - Sometimes I follow a parody and get an idea of my own, sometimes I run with that idea, sometimes I don't, one reason for the latter can be that the theme is not really on my territory, and this time that goes double for two so I'm tossing out both ideas for the English here to do whatever they like with: "Filksong o' London" and/or "Tabloids of London".

(SOTM) Pretty atypical for you, WMJ, but a nice effort. Yet the way you put it, "toys" doesn't exactly sound like guns...

(SOTM) I like it when you do a non-car related parody, so even though I DKTOS and don't really approve of the subject matter, I love it anyway just because you exited your comfort zone!
Matthias - January 27, 2007 - Report this comment
A non-car parody! I'm shocked and amazed!!! Great job here, and funny story my Dorm's name is Compton... We have the most Ghetto Dorm on campus!!!

(SOTM) Love TOS, and "Ugh, or firebomb your trailer" was a great sub for "Huh, I'd like to meet Liz Taylor" - I mean "his tailor".
Michael McVey - January 28, 2007 - Report this comment
Yep, that's one of the sad things about life in America. They ought to legalize throwing hand grenades at groups of gang members.---MM

(SOTM) Just because a parody deals with an uncomfortable subject, doesn't stop it from having huge piles of merit. This is one of those instances. Great job, Jockey. 555
Stuart McArthur - January 29, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) very good, and I also enjoyed seeing you extending your subject range, wannabemj - and the title sub was so good, it was worth writing for that alone - quality stuff - 555

(SOTM) True dat, true dat! Gotta giv' ya da bomb rating on dis one yo.

Agrimorfee, yes, Lynwood, CA is as bad as Compton. It borders Compton on the south-west, just as this parody explains. In one weekend, according to the Lynwood local newspaper, there were 13 deaths either in the city or involving residents of the city.
Johnny D - January 30, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Slick parody of a rough subject.
Phil Alexander - January 31, 2007 - Report this comment
Yeah, it's not a funny subject, but if you don't laugh about something as stupidly tragic as this, you'll cry about it. Nicely done, wbmj.
Jack Wilson - January 31, 2007 - Report this comment
(SOTM)Loved it, awesome
Glen S - January 31, 2007 - Report this comment
Great pacing, but didn't really work for me outside of that. Sorry, man.
