The Lyrics

Young man, there’s a thing you should know, I say
Young man, you can marry your beau, because
Young man, Kennedy says it’s so -- so do
Brey-er, Gins-burg, Ka-gan…
Young man, and not only those four, I say
Young man, there is even one more, and yes
Young man, her name’s So-to-may-or! Which makes
Five-to-Four for Free-dom!

(start the joy-ful chant...)

And say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
Let’s say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
For these justices saw that this bigoted law
Had no place in the U.S. A.
So say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
Let’s say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
If our PCs and phones are surveilled by the Feds
We must draw the line at our beds!

Young girl -- yes, you know who you are, my dear
Young girl, you’ve been hiding thus far, but now
Young girl, take this in, and take heart
That in steps, it’s get-ting bet-ter…
Young girl, some will still call you names, I say
Young girl, they’ll say you should feel shame, but please
Young girl, feel more pity than blame for them
They just don’t know bet-ter…

(let the bi-gots be...)

And say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
Just say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
But take care what you wish, cause it now has come true -
Seek the right to divorce her too!
But say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
Yes, say goodbye to the D. O. M. A.!
Soon enough you will see, legal marriage is flawed:
Stuck for life to the same old broad....

No doubt the most appropriate original song you could have chosen for this well done parody. Nicely rhymed. Glad you threw in the reference to divorce, as one expects same sex marriages will succeed or fail at about the same rate as heterosexual relationships. I bet you are also the first parodist here to rhyme "Sotomayor".

Well, five of the justices found flaws with DOMA; but, to me, Scalia’s dissenting opinion made more sense than the majority opinion. So, I don’t agree with every line in this parody, but it has a lot of excellent lines and a great last verse.

A supreme effort.

Well said; but not only the young were affected. There are many middle-aged couples in committed partnerships, waiting for recognition. Not all of DOMA was struck down. CA's Prop 8 reversal had a more direct effect on that state's LGBTs. See my submission today.

As Patrick - this obnoxious OS was just waiting for this parody. For better or worse, the Village People would probably approve.
