Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Who's On First?"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

I was looking for an angle on this song. Found one.
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?

I'll tell you 'bout our baseball team
You're a big fan of the games
I say, some of these players today
Have some of the most unusual names

The second baseman, though it's absurd
Is named What and he's a pro
The player that stands over at third
We call him I Don't Know

Well, who's on first? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
I really wanna know (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Tell me who's the dude? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Explain to Costello (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)

I'll run it by you once again
Who is the man on first base
I wasn't asking you a question
Don't show me that puzzled face

The pitcher's named Tomorrow
And our catcher's named Today
I ain't tryin' to cause you sorrow
But it's confusing when you say

Well, who's on first? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
I really wanna know (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Tell me who's the dude? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
This dialogue must go (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)

Who's on first?

Why,-left -field, Be-cause-is-cen-ter-field
Why-aren't-I mak-ing-sense? I-don't -know.
That's-third-base (Repeat during piano solo)

Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?
Who's on first? Who's on? who's on?

Now let me just get this straight
The ball is hit to I Don't Know
He throws it to his good teammate
What tags a runner that is slow

Then What throws the ball to Who, the man
Triple play on the short hop
I tell you, I don't give a damn!
Now you say he's the shortstop?

Well, who's on first? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
I really wanna know (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Ah, who the hell is this? (Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Just tell me it ain't so Who's on first, Who's on, Who's on)
Explain to Costello.........

Wheeeee

Thanks, all. I just love taking odd things and making them work together. My music does that, too. I wrote a "Xmas Mudely for my wife's woodwind quintette where I stuck melodies together like "Little Brown Jug How I Love Thee" along with "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer". The musical explanation of how he got his red nose. Of course, when it was performed, nobody got it but me and the quintette.

I don't know the original either, but read it anyway. It was too funny. 5-5-5 is what I give it.
Bob - June 02, 2004 - Report this comment
I know it. It was great. 5/5/5.
John Barry: 5 to 5 to 5 would mean that the third baseman throws to himself twice.
Paul Robinson - June 02, 2004 - Report this comment
And a good angle it was, Rick - 5-5-5

(ABC) Good as I said before...5's

(ABC-W) This is better than a who dunnit. That's right, who dunnit then Rick came along and dunnit, but before that it was Abbott and Costello. I once saw this done with Costello asking Abbott how to turn off his computer. It started with click the start button. You can go figure from there. 5 hits, 5 runs 5 errors.

I'm assuming 'Who' is the name of a baseball player, and this parody is based on one of those skits like:
A: Who invented the steam engine?
B: No, Watt.
A: What?
B: Yeah, Watt.
A: Who?
...OK, I'm not up to par with Rick's skit-zophrenic writing ability, I'm trying to understand Watt this parody has Dunn.

(ABC) 5s from way out of left field. I love the way you take songs because of the challenge, Rick.
John Jenkins - December 08, 2004 - Report this comment
You take a great comedy routine, put it to music with great pacing and rhyming, and the product is quite enjoyable. Very well done, Rick.

This also reminds me of Rain Man when Charlie Babbitt was getting frustrated with Raymond's repeating of Who's on First. Excellent.

(ABC-W) The comedians of old. We owe some of our current shtick to the efforts of these jokesters.
