The Lyrics

DKTOS? MP3 here. This song is the album version, all 7 minutes of it. To those who might care (mainly the Decade Police), this was on the B-52's debut album from 1979, and was their first hit. This is my entry to Tomario's Great Parody Contest. Lyrics in parentheses are the background vocals. Oh, if you don't know what a Gobstopper is, click here to find out.
[intro]

(Go gob em' up! - ooh!)
(Go gob em' up! - chew!)
(Go gob em' up! - ooh!)
Talk about some candy
(Go gob em' up! - chew)
That's hard and can crack your teeth
(Go gob em' up! - ooh!)
When done you'll have a stained tongue
(You're slobberin' - eww!)
From eatin' Gobstoppers!,

(Ahh.....ahhhh.....ahhhh.....ahhhhh!)
Gobstoppers!
(Ahh.....ahhhh.....ahhhh.....ahhhhh!)
Gobstoppers!

[short break]

(chew!)
(chew!)
Spherical and sweet
(chew!)
7 calorie dextrose balls
(cool!)
Emerald hard colorful blobs
(tooth!)
I eat 'em by the gobs
(you?)
They never do stop
(ooh!)
'cause they are Gobstoppers!
(ooh!),

(Ahh.....ahhhh.....ahhhh.....ahhhhh!)
Gobstoppers!
(Ahh.....ahhhh.....ahhhh.....ahhhhh!)
GOBSTOPPERS!

[short break]

(Gah-hob...stoppers)
(Gah-hob...stoppers)
Really kinda Wonka
(ooh ya!)
A Nestle joke?
(fooled ya!)
Jaw in trouble
(ooh ow!)
Worn out muscle
(mmm argh!)
Mouth is in a jam
(mrmm wha?!?)
Think I broke a tooth, damn!
(chew on!)

Gawd - stop
Gobstoppers!

Ow! Ow!

[short break]

(Go gob em' up! - ooh!)
(Go gob em' up! - chew!)
Layers fade away
(No stoppin' now - chew!)
Diff'rent flavors
(Variety - cool!)
Flavors to savor
(go on 'n on - you?)
Savin' green ones
(girls eat 'em up - true!)
Green source of power
(they're Green Piece loved - ooh!)
Go for hours
(don't brag it's un-true!)

(Ahh.....ahhhh.....ahhhh.....ahhhhh!)
Cock-blocker!
(boo....ooooh.....ooooh.....oooooh!)
GOBSTOPPERS!

[short break]

(Gah-hob...stoppers)
(Gah-hob...stoppers)
(ooh.. ah!)
(ooh.. ah!)
Reddish jawbreakers
(lock.. jaw!)
Any takers?
(not.. mwa!)
Most perplexin'
(ooh.. ah!)
Think I'm trippin'
(ooh...wow!)

Wonked - Zonked
Gawd stop this!

Argh! - Argh!

[short break]

Stoppers!
(Gob!)
Stoppers!
(Gob!)

Let's gob!

[short solo]

Sugar, corn syrup
Maltodextrin
Artificial colors
Artificial flavors

Twisted mouth desire,
Never done

Zero total fat,
Zero sodium

Buy a new boxful
Try a few handfuls
Make your dentist wealthy!

Here comes a blue one
(what, what?!)
There goes a orange one
(yeesh! yeesh! yeesh!)
Oooh! there's a purple one!
(yeahhhhhhhh!)
Quite the conundrum
(yeah!)
Say, there's a red one
(oooh ooh!)
Still love the green 'stoppers
(OOOOO!)
I'm glad there's no licorice!
(blech yak yak yak yak ewww!)
That covers it all
(whaaaa!)
IT'S THE "EVERLASTING" TALE!
(Arrrrrgh!)

Gob-stoppers!
Gob-stoppers! ....

Wow! What an effort. And with this and Matthias' contribution, it seems like Willy Wonka has taken over this competition!

Never heard of Gobstoppers before but such a great name breeds some immediate lines from my muse anyway. (Can you spot the tune?)

If there's some in range
In your neighbourhood
What' you gonna eat?
Gobstoppers!
You might get real smeared
But they taste so good
What' you gonna eat?
Gobstoppers!

Well done, my fellow Ant! This must be one of the longest songs to try and parody...you really nailed this!!
Jarvis Procter - July 15, 2006 - Report this comment
Wow, this musta took alot of effort, and it was very good. I don't know the OS real well, but well enough to give this 5's. The original Willie Wonka ruled, by the way.
Kristof Robertson - July 16, 2006 - Report this comment
Well done, Jack! "Rock Lobster" goes on FOREVER and lyrically doesn't give you anything to work with...so, kudos points all round. 555

I never heard the OS before today. The parody is a vast improvement over the 'song'. Loved it. 5's

Thanks Cat, Peter, Blue Ant, Jarvis, Kristof and Pat.

Cat: I'm curious now as to what Matthias did - I'm guessing that "Gonorrhea!" is still up for crabs, err, grabs.

Peter: Oddly enough this title never crossed my mind for Ray Parker Jr.'s "Ghost Busters", a song which has on my "to-do" list for a very long time.

Blue Ant: I found out after d/l it that there is a single version, which is 2 minutes shorter than this. Wish I would have known that at the outset.

Jarvis: Yeah, this took more time than most, especially since no lyrics site had the background vocals transcribed.

Kristof: 7 minutes never seemed so long in my life. The line "IT'S THE "EVERLASTING" TALE!/(Arrrrrgh!)" wasn't just referring to the candy.

Pat: Thanks for d/l the song and the compliment.

DKTOS, mainly because the MP3's taking too long(it seems to be having trouble at the moment), but it's very ammusing and I trust your pacing. 555.

(parody challenge) See above. Yeah, it seems you drew a bit of a short straw here, Jack, but did a fab job with it
Johnny D - July 22, 2006 - Report this comment
(Parody Challenge) Excellent use of parenthetical lyrics, non-verbal lyrics (e.g. the "ahh" 's and the "ohh" 's), and vertically-oriented parody structure to denote rhythms of the OS. Very good job! 555

(Great Parody Challenge) The silly thing is, Gobstoppers these days can be bitten straight through without any broken teeth. Kinda taks the fun out of it. Well done, oh Ant of Red!
Stuart McArthur - July 23, 2006 - Report this comment
(PC) wow! - looks like I pulled the long straw with "Penny Lane" after reading all these complex entries - and what Kristof said about this not giving you anything to work with - but you nailed it beautifully, and I literally LOL'ed a couple of times at the sheer ridiculousness of it - the OS is ridiculous, yet you managed to make yours ridiculouser, and that rocks (lobsters) - 555
Jeff Reuben - July 24, 2006 - Report this comment
Great idea for the song, I was wondering what you were going to do with this. Nice that you picked subject matter that's one of my favorite things =)
