The Lyrics

Till now, they’d won 10 plus 7;
the Lakers, too, had hit those heights.
Only in Boston Celts were playing;
half the time Lakers played in land of ice.

Claimed 18—
they might even do better
(might even do better)
after the Dallas fall.
In 5 games the Mavericks went down.

Named 18
times the champions…
hope this win is starting a new roll.
Might hear 19 callin’.
Then more arrivin’?
Celts’ long-term greatness
can’t be oversold.

Made 18,
not far from the Boston Common.
They might even do better
in realm of basketball.
Celebrations once again in Beantown.

Fine,
lookin’ good,
yes indeed.
So many teams they’ve knocked down.

In days of old,
coach Red Auerbach lit
his cigar when he knew they’d win…
one short of ten.

The Garden, old,
is gone; the greatness lives,
no matter what the building is.
(Win it again!)

Celts might even do better,
we’ll learn starting next fall.

Those Minneapolis Lakers wins of the fifties shouldn't count for much, seeing as how the NBA didn't even have a shot clock until 1953 .. not to mention no blacks until 1952 or so
