The Lyrics

Parody song about the AWOL Texas House Legislatures flight to Oklahoma to avoid voting on redistricting voting precints.Links to news stories:http://news.mysanantonio.com/story.cfm?xla=saen&xlb=300&xlc=995656&xld=300http://news.mysanantonio.com/story.cfm?xla=saen&xlb=184&xlc=995519&xld=184
Sweet pork barrel fat won't be on the next session
with the current remap plan
Ho Jo's was the place the AWOL Dems had gathered
To keep the bill from getting past
Now they all are back from Ardmore Oklahoma
And all of them should be outcast

Set back, set back
The remap bill has just been gonged
Set back, set back
Set back and we were really wronged
Set back, oh no!

No zone

Set back, set back
The remap bill has just been gonged
Set back, set back
Set back and we were really wronged
Set back, no!

To keep the votes from startin' ought to be high treason
They thought it was a real good plan
When the voters gather they won't see it comin'
When we kick them in the can

Set back, set back
The remap bill has just been gonged
Set back, set back
Set back and we were really wronged
Set back, oh no!

No zone

Ah set back
Yeah set back
Set back and we were really wronged
Yeah set back, set ba-a-a-ackk
The remap bill has just been gonged

SPOKEN

Go pack forfeiter
Your district's waitin' for you
Squarin' their punch down ballots
And plannin' a low vote turnout
You can't go home you quitter

FADE

Set ba-a-a-ack, set ba-a-a-ack,
And we the people have been really wronged

You're totally right about the Democrats, just not about the song's artist. Get Back was by a little known pop group from Liverpool, England called "The Beatles." You might have been confused by the fact that their base player Paul McCartney happened to form another group called Wings about a couple years after Get Back was recorded. You can't tell me Linda played that electric piano solo! 4-5-5 (the last 5's rounded up from 4.5), since the first verse had two extra lines at the top. Otherwise, great! Those congressmen are a real disgrace to their party, as it now cements the Dems' reputation as being absolute cowards.

I realized my mistake with Paul McCartney and wings right after I submitted the song. Thanks for the info though. And those dirty dems are not well liked here by most in Texas. I push George Bush!
Michael Pacholek - May 27, 2003 - Report this comment
Push George Bush anywhere you want, as long as you push him out of the White House he did not win and does not deserve. And the solo was played by Billy Preston, who would not have the right to vote if he lived in Jeb Bush's Florida. John Kerry for President, and Texas Democrat Sheila Jackson Lee for Vice President!

Mr Pacholek - You seem to be fairly clueless. Do you have any fact to back up what you are saying? What about Gore who wanted to deny the military's absentee ballots from being counted. He would be their commander in chief had he been elected and he wants to deny them the right to vote. Al says - You all have the right to die for your country but not to vote when you are overseas, at least when my election is at stake. And just give a thought to Dade county - demographics shows it overwhelmingly Cuban American constituency. Do you remember a cabinet member named Janet Reno (I still hate that dude) and a young Cuban boy named Elian Gonzales? This is what actually made your boy lose that race. The Cuban Americans in Dade county (Overwhelmingly Democrat) actually voted for Bush. It was a poor strategy for Algore or Al Gore to go ripping chad in these south Florida counties. He knew his only chance was to deny the military the right to cast their absentee ballots which did make the difference in the popular Florida vote in favor of Bush. And had he been successful do you think he would have felt guilty on holidays like Memorial and Veterans day saying words and laying wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown? His predicessor probably didn't feel guilty when he did this, but he always looked annoyed. There is nothing more foul than to deny the right to vote to those who serve our country. They above all have the right to choose their commander in chief. It is the only form of democracy that they enjoy within the military structure. And this right is the right to choose who will ask them to fight and die for their country. You should be ashamed of the way you carry on. Wouldn't you want the right to have a say in who asks you to die?

Hoo, boy. It looks like Mr. DiRito needs further instruction. Those military absentee ballots were postmarked AFTER November 7, making them as valid as a tax return postmarked after April 15: Zilch. Do I remember Elian? Of course I do. He was rescued by the FBI from his kidnappers. It's funny how right-wing zealots tolerate keeping a child away from his father, people who can't speak English, protestors tying up traffic, and burning the American flag when such actions try to make Fidel Castro look bad. He doesn't need the help. Dade County is not overwhelmingly Democratic. The only reason it's even close is because of blacks and retirees, mainly Jews and Catholics from places like New York. Why should Bill Clinton, Bush's "predicessor," feel guilty? He tried to keep men OUT of those tombs, unlike Bush, Cheney, Quayle, Gingrich, Buchanan, Limbaugh, George Will, et al. who said, "Young men, go to war! Do as I say, not as I do!" There is nothing more foul than to deny the right to vote, PERIOD. This is what Bush did. When those absentee ballots came in late, they were in violation of the law. Again, right-wing nuts are selective when applying "the rule of law." And the only people in the last election, ultimately, who had the right to say who chooses who gets to live and who has to die, were the nine members of the U.S. Supreme Court. Or, as Bill Maher put it, "How come 10,000 blacks in Florida don't get a vote, and Clarence Thomas does?" Actually, he doesn't. Antonin Scalia gets two, since Thomas never disagrees with him. That's the difference: You would die for George W. Bush, but he wouldn't even enter the regular armed services for you.

And you got your law degree from where was it? You happen to know all there is to know about election laws? Are you also a tax lawyer as well? You can have a tax return legally submitted to the IRS after April 15th. Ever heard of an extension? Your credibility is seriously waning. If you take a close look at the election laws they do not stipulate anything about postmarks for absentee ballots from military. There is no such thing because individuals do not mail them in. If you were ever in the military and voted absentee you would know that you do your voting at your unit's orderly room or headquarters and it is controlled by the unit's voting officer. The voting has to be concluded some time before the actual election and the ballots are guaranteed to have been cast well before the actual election is conducted so any postmark is considered null and void in this matter since the unit voting officer has the same power as a notary pubic and legally swears to the ballots authenticity. Once these ballots are certified they are then sent forward to their respective precincts. Nice try but dig up something else. This dog won't hunt. And at least Bush went on the military. What did Clinton do? Avoided the draft by going to college in England where he burnt the US flag and protested against the war and smoked marijuana only he didn't exhale. Joining the military is a choice and has been since 1973 when the draft ended. What about JFK? He sent men to war in Vietnam and so did LBJ who actually escalated the war. And that war was folly as history has proven. That war cost us over 50,000 lives. How many have we lost in the two wars that were waged since Bush was president? Hey lets add Gulf War I to this as well. Now that makes three. All three of these campaigns were considered successful and the causality toll in these three wars is way under 1,000. Why don't you slam Clinton for Kosovo? Was that not a war as well? We are still there and Clinton said we'd be out within two years. Ha! So you see my friend all these leaders have their faults and their pluses. Not sure where Clinton's plus column is. He has about as many pluses as Bush has minuses. He did manage to keep us out of Northern Ireland. Maybe a plus for Clinton is that the casualty toll in Kosovo was also light. An amazing feat for someone who systematically plundered the military. Good thing this happened early in his presidency. So Clinton also did "do as I say not as I do" when he committed troops to Kosovo, Mogadishu (Black Hawk Down) and Haiti. Did you forget about these? I would not die for any man or woman. I would have died for my country if I were unlucky enough to have been in harms way at anytime during 21 years and 3 months that I served. I would have then died for the office of the presidency the same one I swore an oath of allegiance to each time I reenlisted. But you don't win wars by dying for your country. You win wars by making the enemy die for his. You should really try debating something else beside military protocols, legal systems and politics. You don't seem to have the living experience that one needs in order to understand how these things really work. I got my facts from the real world. Where do you get yours?

Michael....why do you think that Clarence Thomas should vote differently than Scalia? If that is what Justice Thomas believes, then what is wrong? He's a conservative, I dont see what the difference is between him and any other conservative that votes that wa---oh, wait I think I see it...you dont think he should vote republican because he's black, dont you? Youre probably one of the people that believe that all blacks and jews and catholics, etc should be registered democrats...right? Well Michael, believing that is the most racist thing you can believe......Im a catholic, and Im a republican...I have many jewish and black and catholic friends that are republicans too...in fact, of all the non-protestants I know, only about 5 of them are democrats......Michael, the world doesnt live by stereotypes....people follow their own opinions, not the ones that are prescribed to them because of their ethnic or racial background.

Well put Billy! I did notice that but decided to leave some white space out here for others to fill up. I grew up Catholic and I don't really associate myself with either major political party. I vote for the person, not the party which is also very stereotypical. This is my main gripe with the current democratic leadership. They rely on block voting by bombarding the labor unions to vote democratic. This is basically how Gore won states like Pennsylvania. I grew up in Pa. and it has been this way since I could remember. The tide is changing and the dinosaurs will go extinct again. Hear that Mr. Pacholek?
