The Lyrics

John R. Cash, born Kingsland, Arkansas, February 26, 1932, died Nashville, Tennessee, September 12, 2003. And the circle won't be broken.
Well, you wonder I feel like wearing black
why the dark-hide leather jacket's on my back
and why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, the Man In Black has left us on our own.

The Man In Black is gone, and we're feeling down
living in a time when he's no longer around.
For too long, was a prisoner of some ailments so unkind.
But some joy for us he still managed to find.

The Man In Black is gone, that's what we've read.
That's what the guys on the Internet and TV said.
Along a road to happiness through love and charity
with a few potholes and speedbumps, passed did he.

Well, he built a mighty legend, I suppose
with his songs of hardened men in ragged clothes.
But he had a soft spot for all those who are giving back.
And that's why we're gonna miss the Man In Black.

Lately he was gravely sick and looked so old.
And he lost his precious June, which left us cold.
All Nashville was in mourning, and we knew what was to be:
that soon she'd lead him up to join her in eternity.

The Man In Black has suffered and has died.
leaving us a legacy that's sanctified.
No one can say that this man never stepped up and tried
and millions knew that he was on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right, I know.
And things need changing everywhere we go.
But as we salute this man who tried to make things right
perhaps, at last, he can wear a suit of white.

Oh, I love to hear his songs from my deejay
and help me hear one thing that's still okay.
When some young hotshot singer's acting whack
just remember there was once a Man In Black.

And the "Ones Guy" is a dirty, mangy dog named "Sue."

EXCELLENT!!!! I'm glad to see someone appreciates the true legends of our time...people who've had careers that spanned for decades. Too many of today's celebrities are flashes in the pan. People like Cash will live forever.

He walked the line, for the last time. Ever see the Columbo episode he starred in? At the end Columbo takes him into custody: Cash: "Aren't you scared being all alone with a murderer?" Columbo: "No, sir. (Puts Johnny Cash tape in car cassette) "Anyone who sings like that can't be all bad."
