He came to Pittsburgh
Looking for questions to answers
That bothered him so
He was a winner, old and a sinner
And he never went to church
But the cold winter snowstorms, and bankruptcy forms
Threw off his concentration
And autumns and springtimes scattered like free times
And four or five years slipped away

Then he came to Philly, played the piano
And married a clown named Annie
They had a fine life, she was a good wife
Bore him a young girl named Fannie
And all of the questions and all of the answers
Locked up in his attic one day
Cause he liked the noisy, messy city living
And twenty more years slipped away

Well, their girl floated away, his lady wouldn't stay
And left him with lower morale
His life jumped the shark, his whole world hit park
And he put his house up for sale
While the tears were falling he was recalling
Questions that he never found
So, he jumped in his Viper, skidded the roadway
And left Philly without a sound

Now he lives on the islands, fishes the pilings
And drinks his soda pop every day
He's writing his memoirs, losing his hearing
But he don't care what his good friends say
Through ninety - five years of perpetual motion,
If he likes you he'll smile and say:
"Michael, some of it's magic, some of it's tragic,
But I had a good life along the way."

And he came to Pittsburgh, looking for questions to answers
