The Lyrics

Lyrics to the original song "Hijack" can be found at : .......... http://lyrics.duble.com/P/paulkantnerlyrics/paulkantnerhijacklyrics.htm ............ Here is a webpage with Paul Kantner's own personal commentary on how "Blows Against The Empire" (the album "Hijack" is from) came to be: ............. http://www.airplane.freeserve.co.uk/interviews/comments.htm ...............Here is a quote from "kireviewer" of Sunnyvale, Ca, United States, from the Amazon.com webpage for the album "Hijack" is from, "Blows Against The Empire" : "This is not really the Jefferson Starship. This is a project from Paul Kantner and Grace Slick, with the help of alot of friends, recorded during a break from the Jefferson Airplane, just after recording the album "Volunteers". Starship, which evolved from the Airplane, didn't really become an established group until four years later. This album more or less marked the end of the San Francisco psychedelic and political period of rock and roll. After this the Airplane went more pop, the Dead went country and everyone else just disappeared. In a way, it does lead into the British progressive period. This a concept album about hippies taking off in their starship and embarking on a voyage of love and peace. It may sound like a silly, dated concept now, but Kantner is such a strong song writer that the words and music still hold up."
The Hummer you drive's
Like a boat that has been
Behind pot-smoking whales that are wheezing

You sail out into the asphalted night
And you seek the righteous parking

Sunday morning in greedway
Y'know the car thiefs come around for a reason

SUNDAY MORNIN'
SUNDAY MORNIN'

(Oh) Command your screen and you make it glow
Hop in your Hummer and move

The sound of your thundering alarm for security
Pulses as you park 'neath the Moon

Scare off the stupid car thieves
In the night
As you park your big Hummer and move

(instrumental)

When I feel you
There beside me
Riding Hummer fun

Goin' home
Move your mind to cars and then beyond

Gasoline
Is not a reason to start a Mid-East war

Drive
Free
Using solar-ray fuel

(instrumental)

My gas was my cargo
When O-PEC oil-embargoed

To all the gas-pumps of Exxon
You could see the lines forming
People lining up for nothin'

The oil hunters wail
And they bark
And they wheeze
As they try to sell us more of their poison

You know, a hybrid's now the car to buy
It oughta cost less than 'bout nineteen ninety
They'll be buildin' them cheaper than air
Maybe just nineteen eighty

Drivers who buy them will plan
To defeat the chop-shoppin' car thieves
And - LOJACK THEIR HYBRIDS!
Cover 7000 square miles like the Sun

Car thieves will not escape the reach of every hybrid's GPS!

Come on,
Clean air!
Clean driving!
Clean fuel!
Clean cruising!
The day is on its way,
The day is ours!

(instrumental)

You breathe out
You breathe in
And the solar energy'll get you on

Moving slow
Don't feel the changes
Gracefully growing
As wild as we can be

Only the sun glows en-er-gy as clean as snow

Only the sun holds the secret
Of how
From oil we can be free
'Cause to oil we're all locked
In this fossil fuel-oil circle

We gotta mine the free power in space
It's around us everywhere

The ether in space
Is a powerful place
With power for those who dare

Beyond the limits of petroleum
And beyond that somewhere

Crystalline vibes in the land of the sky
Will give us free power to spare

But time won't wait
For the power of space
From the ether of the sky to come!

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
CHAOS OR COMMUNITY?
CAN'T YOU SEE - ON THIS AND FUTURE SUNDAYS

7000 Hybrids drivin' together

(And) Power drawn from the sun without warming the weather

Gotta Lojack
LOJACK THE HYBRIDS

in order to truly appreciate this one I had to do a little delving into the Hummer/hybrid war issue....that has not crossed the Atlantic ...yet! It is an seriously good parody .. I loved it and I appreciate the sentiments....we do need to find viable alternatives to fossil fuel in the longer term or its curtains for us all!
