The Lyrics

You may not have known the Mets' collapse was coming, but, once it did, you could have easily guessed that this parody was coming.
The legend lives on from old Flatbush on down
of the '51 Dodger calamity.
But even that choke's not as big of a joke
as the '07 Flushing insanity!

With a load of champagne but not yet played the game
the Mets would leave their fans feeling empty.
They talked awfully big but the Phils danced a jig
and the Mets fell just like Humpty Dumpty!

The team was the pride of the Flushing, Queens side.
Their fans thought them much better than Yankees.
'Twere seven away with just seventeen to play
then this ballclub became rather stinky!

Defining his terms, Jimmy Rollins affirmed
that the team to beat would be his Phillies.
And from April on, Met fans thought he was wrong
and the standings did make it look silly!

But August would arrive and would begin the dive
of the ballclub known as Metropolitan.
And every fan knew that the orange and blue
would, as they always do, be fallin'!

The talk radio made a tattletale sound
and the Flushing bunch now was all failing.
They've been in this fix each year since '86.
Do they now have that cursed-ballclub feeling?

When the last two weeks came, the Mets all played like dreck
while a tear's engineered by Philadelphia.
When they met back at Shea, the Mets got blown away.
We said, "Fellas, there's no way to help ya!"

Lose to Nationals, sin, and the Marlins came in
and the tears of Met fans were all gushing.
When Glavine did pout, getting only one out
came the wreck of the ballclub of Flushing!

Does anyone know where your sixty bucks goes
when it's wasted in less than an hour?
The fielding was bad and the bullpen was sad
and the starters are quick to the shower!

It's like they gave up though increased their cap-size
and they left fifty thousand in shocker.
And all that remains is their faces with pains
as reporters ambush in their lockers!

Their stomachs roll as the loss takes its toll
from Long Island on out to New Jersey.
The Met fans all steam at the end of their dream
but now Yankee fans gloat with no mercy!

And farther below, well, the party still goes
in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Phillies say, "Mets, this is good as it gets
and it felt really good when we tamed ya!"

In their musty old stadium, Met fans still prayed
but theirs prayers worked no better than wishing.
The church bells chimed 'til they rang seven times
for the games blown by ballclub of Flushing!

The legend lives on, how the Mets fell way down
in September of two thousand seven.
Superior, they said, now their faces are red
while the Yankees climb stairway to heaven!
