Rick, are you English? I ask because I'm Anerican and pitbull dogs are just Pits. Some other nicknames are Nanny Dog (1800s), Blockheads, Dogzillas, and linked to the artist Pitbull are 305s. Bikers often refer to them as teeth on chains and some black folks call then manglers or PBs. In addition, technically the term Pitbull is describing a type of dog and not their individual breeds (plural). Now YOU got educated!
Blame the miserable Irish who, during the Industrial Revolution, worked in Britain. For entertainment they trained dogs to fight each other. The Pitbull types were originally used in bull baiting (hence the name) but were then trained to fight other animals including other dogs. The dogs were brought to America during European immigration in the late 1800s. People are to blame, not the animals. Vilification of breeds is wrong.
