Original Song Title:

Original Performer:

Frank Sinatra

Parody Song Title:

"Oooh, Tork, Cute Tork"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

As sung by a woman reminiscing about the 60s. For Stan Hall. Stan, how about, "I'm in a cute-Tork state of mind"?
They were in the news.
Where are they today?
My favorite of the partnership:
Oooh, Tork, cute Tork.

It gave me the blues
When they went away.
I'd have given my heart to him
Oooh, Tork, cute Tork.

I always quaked at Monkees ditties, and I'd weep
Whenever Peter was ill. I couldn't sleep.

Critics frowned, eschewed them. Jealous, I'd say!
OK! Most parts they sang, lip-synched--even cute Tork.
But ask me: did I care? Back then, no savoir-faire.
I'd still hew to cute Tork, cute Tork.

Oooh, Tork, cute Tork.

I'd never make out with that Micky--
What a creep! And Mike Nesmith was no fun,
Davy, a simp. So, let me think:
That leaves just one.

I re-read reviews. What'd the critics say
'bout this prepackaged partnership--even cute Tork?
They said, "There is no there there."
That had a certain Gertrude [Stein] flair.
I was a true oooh-Tork, cute-Tork
True dork.

Bravo ... guess I asked for it, eh? But to this song's narratrix/narrator and one who may find her/himself "... in a cute-Tork state of mind" I say, had I myself to chosen a favorite Monkee it'd surely have been Mickey Dolenz, whose "Circus Boy" adventures quite entertained my then-nine-year-old self. :-)

Thanks, Stan. And who could forget "Head"?

Actually, the few midway-thru' minutes of "Head" I watched when I noticed it airing recently on one of those "Encore" channels convinced me to forget keeping on watching. :-)

Sir John, definitely ~Duke of Torque~ ! I never liked the Monkees, but the drummer was my sister's preference ! ~ Torque On ~

I remember him - he was the only one who was blond.

Ah...made much more sense after reading some of the comments. Enough of a Monkees fan to enjoy it, not enough to realize who Tork was at first :)

Crushed hard on Peter in the 60's and now when I watch old episodes. still do. Don't see how anyone could resist that gorgeous hair and those dimples (and "grayish-green eyes" as Nesmith said on one show). When he swooped her down and kissed a girl on one show, I had fantasies for days. Great parody.
