The Lyrics

A series exploring situations that Elvis Presley might be in if, as many believe, he actually is still alive at the age of (believe it!) 72. This time, the King takes on global warming.
(instrumental opening)

Lord A'mighty, I feel the temperature rising!
Higher and higher, it's gonna burn down the Pole!
Girl, girl, girl, girl, feels like the whole world's on fire!
The Arctic's melting, and I don't know which way to go!

The gases burning higher!
Guess that Al Gore ain't no liar!
Gotta go green, you know why!
Burning up!

Woo-oo-oo-oo, I feel the temperature rising!
Earth could be flaming, it's not just Gore's boring old whine!
Burning, burning, we're burning and gotta start cooling!
Factories had chance to smoke, we don't feel fine!
Yeah!

The gases burning higher!
Guess that Al Gore ain't no liar!
Gotta go green, you know why!
Burning up!

(instrumental break)

It's coming closer, the day of the reckoning, big-time!
Won't you help us? The greenhouse gas, we're stuck beneath!
Folks think I'm dead, but I got grandchildren!
Whoa! Whoa!
Lisa Marie's kids, they gotta have air they can breathe!
Yeah!

The gases burning higher!
Guess that Al Gore ain't no liar!
Gotta go green, you know why!
We're burning up!
We're burning up!

Aw...
It ain't no bunk, no bunk, we're burning up!
It ain't no bunk, no bunk, we're burning up!
It ain't no bunk, no bunk, we're burning up!
It ain't no bunk, no bunk, we're burning up!
(repeat 'til fade)
I know what you're thinking: "Wait a minute, Mike, Elvis shook hands with President Richard Nixon in 1970, he was a Republican!" Well, 1970 was also the year Nixon signed the Environmental Protection Act, including the Clear Air Act and the Clear Water Act, and creating the Environmental Protection Agency. Nixon understood the need for a cleaner environment. He wasn't all bad. And while Elvis wasn't big on causes, I find it hard believe he wouldn't do what he could to make sure his recordings would still be bought long after his death -- whether that has actually happened yet or not. (It has, but who's kidding who: Elvis Lives.)

Sadly, Global Warming is a reality and now most politicians accept that as a reality. Unfortunately, most politicians are worse offenders of the environment than society. I take the bus even though I have a driver's license and turn off lights I'm not using. I also recycle things that can be by taking them with me to work and throwing them out with their recycle bins rather than through the dumpster at my home. . .I don't think my little contribution can help much, but at least I feel a little less responsible for it. . .

Depressingly funny. How about a take on the coal industry, "Sulphurous Mines."

Ah, but that would be 20th Century Elvis, John.

And just to make things worse, now it's called "climate change" instead of global warming so that nuts like you can whine about the weather whether it's hot or it's cold. I sure am glad more scientists are daring to speak out against you idiots who think a consensus is the same thing as scientific proof.
Michael Pacholek - July 23, 2007 - Report this comment
More scientists? You mean like six, paid by Rupert Murdoch and the Republican National Committee, against a million? It's not just a consensus, it's an overwhelming consensus. The evidence is solid. Only a liar now says global warming hasn't happened. The only questions now are, "Can we do something about it?" And, "If so, what?" There's the debate. You can particpate if you're willing to be honest. So I guess, being a Bush bootlicker, you won't participate.
