The Lyrics
City boy Rowland just seemed to find out early
How to open Political doors with his smirky smile
A filthy rich group old men, and he won't have to worry
He can get dressed up for the Governor's Mansion, and go in style
But late one night, at the old Lake front Cottage he calls, to hire
His Tomasso Buds to do contract work for him.
He doesn't care who pays, because he ain't gonna
I guess every form of cover-up has its price
And it doesn't break his heart to think that CT residents will paid for this
Given to a man with a heart as cold as ice
So he tells the contractors they can work throughout the evening
Get as much cash as they think they want
Cause he's the GOV and he knows how to play the game
He's use to being on the cheatin' side of things
But Rowland can't hide his lyin' eyes
And his smirky smile, is a thin disguise
I thought by now he'd realize
There ain't no way to hide his lyin' eyes
On the other side of town a boy and a girl of a political friend are waiting
With hopes of getting jobs for the State of Connecticut
They slid on through the process and get hired
'Cause Rowland makes the deals that help them, while a blind man gets fired!!
Rowland can't hide his lyin' eyes
And his smirky smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now Rowland would have realized
There ain't no way to hide his lyin' eyes
Now he gets up and pours himself a strong one
And stares out at the stars up in the sky
Another night with the State Legislative Branch, it's gonna be a long one
He draws that smirky smile, but you can hear that winsome sigh
He wonders how it ever got this crazy
He thinks about all the deals he thought were cool
Did he get tired or did he just get lazy?
He's so far gone, he feels just like a fool!!
And my, oh my, you sure know how to arrange things
You set it up so well, so carefully (you thought)
Ain't it funny how your knew life's LIES didn't change things
You're still the same old corrupt boy you used to be
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smirky smile, is a thin disguise
Rowland, I thought by now you'd realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
No, there ain't no way to hide your lyin' eyes
Govy, you ain't gonna hide your lyin' eyes!!
