Parody Song Title:

"Sylvia's Daughter"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

The original song, written by Shel Silverstein, was released in March 1972, 50 years ago. I chose "Schreiber" as the family name because the original was "Avery," and that made me think of comedian Avery Schreiber, who was big at the time.
Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia's looking
for a man she once knew, long ago.
Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia's sorry
she left him for some other beau.
Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia regrets
and Sylvia wants you to know.

And the smart phone charges me fifteen dollars more
for the use of data...

Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just gotta talk to her.
I'll only keep her awhile.
Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just wanna tell her
goodbye...

Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia's mother
was mean and evil back in the day.
Sylvia's mother made Sylvia marry
that fella down Galveston way.
Sylvia's daughter says her mother wishes
she'd gone back to you and to stay.

And the smart phone charges me fifteen dollars more
for the use of data...

Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just gotta talk to her.
I'll only keep her awhile.
Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just wanna tell her
goodbye...

Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia's suffering.
She's well past a wheelchair and cane.
Sylvia's daughter says Sylvia's dying.
The drugs will no more ease the pain.
And Sylvia's daughter says please, sir, forgive her
for 50 years of heartbreak and strain.

And the smart phone charges me fifteen dollars more
for the use of data...

Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just gotta talk to her.
I'll only keep her awhile.
Please, Mrs. Schreiber
I just wanna tell her
goodbye...
Tell her goodbye...
Tell her goodbye...
(repeat 'til fade)

My compliments, Mr. Pacholek. You turned Silverstein's bitter condemnation of the original selection's narrator upside down and added a much-needed element of regrets from Sylvia Schreiber nee Avery of what might have been had that evil monster of a mother of hers not cruelly interfered.

"Sylvia's Mother" makes anyone's list of the 20 worst songs ever to pollute the airwaves of the Free World. It was one of those songs that wasn't actually released .. it escaped from its confinement in a soundproof room. Even Sylvia hated it.
