Original Performer:

Cat Stevens (aka Yusuf Islam)

Parody Song Title:

"He's A Slut For Jihad Pests"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens), a terrorist-lover and -funder, is on a terrorist no-fly list, meaning he cannot enter the States. Still, he somehow managed to get onto a London-New York Flight. The plane was diverted to Bangor, ME, and Yusuf was sent packing back to London before he was able to contaminate U.S. soil.
He once purveyed pallid popular art,
But then something blew his thinking apart.
And then he started to finance the plots.
So they had to kick the slut off the plane;
Yes, they kicked the slut off the plane; back he goes.

CHORUS:
He's a slut for jihad pests, so back he goes.
He's a slut for jihad pests.

One time he sang middle-of-the-road pop verse,
But he became a convert—the worst.
After that, for "infidel" blood he'd thirst.
That's how we know. . .

CHORUS

Quickly did this vile man slide
Into his support for the wrong side.
He called for Salman Rushdie to die—
Some reasons why they kicked him off the plane.
But was it miles above the terrain. Such luck? No!

CHORUS

One time he sang middle-of-the-road pop verse,
But he became a convert—the worst.
After that, for "infidel" blood he'd thirst.
That's how we know. . .

CHORUS

DKTOS, but IWID.

This could well be construed as libellous: Yusuf (ex-Cat) Islam is a Muslim moderate who frequently speaks out against terrorism - to suggest he's financing it does him an injustice.

Yusuf called for the murder of Salman Rushdie, and there's evidence that his "charitable work" supports terrorism.

very well expressed, John

He was widely and maliciously misquoted about Rushdie; and if you have evidence for his supporting terrorism, give it to the UK police as I'm sure they'd be interested.

Thanks, Royce, JD (IWD?).

Show me a writer that noone ever wanted to see dead and I'll show you a writer who's not really worth reading. Not that I've read Rushdie or support whoever that Cat Stevens is, just thinking out loud here.

The bottom line here, as far as I'm concerned, is that the Cat supported the terrorist butcher Khomeini and thus deserves no sympathy or apologias.

Based on limited knowledge, I originally thought that this was a very good parody. But after reading http://catstevens.com/faq/, I tend to agree with Philbo and think that the parody might be off target.

I typically enjoy your stuff, JB, but you lost me with this one.
Thanks, Johnkins, for posting that link. I was about to do just that. "Cat supported the terrorist butcher Khomeini"? Here's what Stephen/Cat/Yusuf says:
"I never ever sanctioned people taking the law in their own hands or overstepping the laws of the Britain which is what the Fatwa of Ayatollah Khomeini proposed. The truth is I never once stated support for the 'Fatwa.'"
Here's his quote in the context of his entire article about the episode:

And since I'm plugging other sites' takes on this, here's one more:

Keeping Yusuf out of the country is one of those rare moments that I actually agree with an action done by the Bush administration. Now, if we could do something about not letting certain rich Saudi terrorist supporters (who also happen to be oil barons) into this country, then maybe Bush would be moving in the right direction.

If Cat Stevens is a terrorist, why did we put him on a plane back to Britain? Why did Jack Straw object to our treatment of him? What this has done symbolically is terrible. It has said to the moderate Muslims of the world that they are guilty by association of terrorism. It is like telling conservative Americans that they are also to blame for the Oklahoma City bombing, since Timothy McVeigh was a conservative extremist. See the anger rise? See the divisiveness? Is it a Holy War that we wish to fight?

Cat Stevens supports Hammas. Period.

This person is so far off base, it really isn't funny. Yusuf Islam is no more a "terrorist" than a new born kitten. One would think that the Man for Peace award, presented to Yusuf by Mikhail Gorbechev, is evident of that. Also, that ban barring him from the country, has been lifted. Mr. Islam has been given a full Visa.
