The Lyrics

I must admit that I still listen to the classic rock station in our area....
You always play, the same songs day after day
They were damn good, now they have become cliché
Classic rock stations geared to ma and pa
Never ever play Zappa
God, there ought to be a law

You always said, The Cars would never do you wrong
The trick you said, is never play songs that are long
A old Styx tune, the only risk that you would take
"Come sail away, come sail away"
It's getting hard to stay awake

And you're still so lame
The same damned shit as yesterday
"I'm sailing away"
(No one's standing in your way)
Tune in to 'The Rock: Good Time Classic Radio'
You're still so lame
You still aim low

There you stood, manufactured balladeer
I just blew a big Bronx cheer
There was nothing new to hear

'Cause You're still so lame
It's you to blame
Swapping same for same
Songs that never change
You're still so lame

That was great! And so true! I stopped listening to the radio 20 years ago mostly for this reason. I grew up with the greatest radio station in the nation (read: no playlist), and when I move across the country I was appalled at the repetitivity of the schlock played on the local oldies stations.

Thanks, Meriadoc... Although it isn't always exactly my taste in music, I enjoyed listening to KPIG when I lived in the Santa Cruz area. Through that station I discovered Richard Thomson, Sonny Landreth, The Hellecasters, Los Lobos, Todd Thibaud and a host of others. They still overplay songs though.

Internet radio is usually better than regular radio....

Well, we're havin' a ball, just a-boppin' on the big dance floor, here comes a real square cat, he looks like two thousand and four...
