The Lyrics

Homosexuality may be wrong, but tampering with the Constitution is even wronger.
Under a big and lonesome lighthouse just outside Cape Cod
You can watch the gays and lesbians break the will of God,
A woman can get married to a girl she met the night before.

The Repubs are getting angry, the way they always do
When the Constitution doesn't say just what they want it to,
They want a new Amendment, they won't rest until they get it, too.

But here I am, I believe in freedom.
I don't think that might makes right
Our Founding Fathers, they were right again.
Don't tamper with the Bill of Rights!

They walk into a restaraunt just beside the road,
And they feel the eyes upon them, people starin' cold.
They pretend it doesn't bother them, but them just want to explode.

You know people are gonna talk, there's so much prejudice,
Our economy is crumbling, the snobs could not care less.
But though they are outnumbered, they've got the guts to take a stand.

And here I am, I believe in freedom.
I don't think that might makes right.
Our Founding Fathers, they were right again.
Don't tamper with the Bill of Rights!

Now they're in the spotlight from two thousand miles away,
The crooks who run for President, even they must have their say,
And the lies pour from their big mouths, they've no clue what it's like, if you're gay.

Later in the evening, as they lie awake in bed,
Echos of the protests ringing in their heads,
As they drink their their last Budweiser, may they remember what I said:

Here I am, I believe in freedom.
I don't think that might makes right.
Our Founding Fathers, they were right again.
Don't tamper with the Bill of Rights!

Here I am, I believe in freedom.
I don't think that might makes right.
Our Founding Fathers, they were right again.
Don't tamper with the Bill of Rights!

Hey, great parody! I've always liked that song "Turn the Page" and it's about time someone did a parody of it! I liked it and I stand by the belief, too, that it should not be tampered!! Again, great parody!!!

Thanks, all. I'm probably almost unique in being both pro-life and pro-gay rights. I have a few friends on Yahoo who are the same way, but it seems a very rare combination. Btw, I happen to be "straight" through and through.--MM

Michael, Yeah, when folks want to pass Constitutional Amendments because they disapprove of something particular I really would like them to be seriously confronted about it. The MEDIA pundits might think about about that role, perhaps, in between treating the Presidential Election coming up like a damned horse-race and worrying about folks seeing Janet Jackson's breast in what was ALREADY going to be a tasteless, tacky, half-time show anyway. Now Bush is clearly trying to detract attention from his miserable performance in office with a new "Demon" here. He KNOWS this amendment ain't gonna fly so he's playing with this issue. You don't have to be all that aware to realize how cynical that really is. Boy, he is a piece of work, but that's another subject. Your concern about being "labelled" is interesting, I did a parody supporting Gay Marriage rights that posted today ( "By The Way, Gay's OK") and mentioned in the "pre-comments" that I knew folks who were gay - partially because it is the truth but also in a somewhat defensive posture since am I not. There really shouldn't be a need to do that, but I guess we still feel that there is. Now while I am in favor of abortion rights I don't see why "pro-life" and "pro-gay rights" should be incompatible, except that some in the "pro-life" crowd have a pretty stilted definition of what being truly "pro-life" might entail. Maybe some types of people don't count as "life" to them.
