The Lyrics

The slogan we barked's a turkey,
So we had to forestall its life.
It was rank, a turd; it sucks, it stinks,
Suggesting eyes that don't blink.
Its irony was getting a lot of buzz,
Voices calling "clowns"--loud!
Our feats were not giving us marks high;
Wag the diction dog, we vowed.

We finally get it: "Stay the course" ain't the name;
It was bad, as things went down the drain.
Folks reject it 'cause it was getting lame;
It suggests blinders that force horse down same lane.

Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh. . . .

After 12 beers, son of veep of Ron
Heard some words the Gipper said.
Thought he was Reagan's reincarnation,
But he's Nixon, though with rocks in head.
So he seized on an old slogan Ronnie once told
To distract us from ink so red.

But now we finally get it: "Stay the course" ain't the name,
So we tried lexi-legerdemain.
We reject it 'cause our pants gettin' stained--
In the midterms, elect'rate is aimin' to maim.

Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh. . . .

After three years, "stay the course" was set free,
Deserted, thought equivoc'lly.
Our new plan for words, the Orwell thing,
A Newspeak song we sing:
Old notion is deserted; we didn't like the sound,
Now it's "flexible" that we love;
We parrot lexically a phrase of renown--
Paraphrased: "Dove's hawk and hawk's dove."

Although the slogan's deserted,
"Stay the course" means the same
As "flexible"; it's just a new name.
Then we desert the Snow job to explain
The lame is/ain't oxymoronic refrain.

Duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh. . . .
