The Lyrics

Let's say that I was not amused when I got electric bill
The juice is so expensive that it made me shiver, chill
So I thought I now had to find a way to save a buck
'cause paying through the nose for juice, oh, it can really suck
So I thought I just had to way to get free energy
and doing it just by yourself is way for engineer
Maybe solar panel - or a generator, pan -
I want free electricity - my free electric plan!

At first I took the cables for the jump-start for my car
I thought that I could make connection on lamp-post not so far
Result was a blue lightning and a neat electric arc
I managed to blow every fuse and get my home all dark
My neighbours were alarmed as an ambulance arrived
And everyone were scared I was electrocuted, right -
Clearly stealing juice is not the way to go - no man!
Another setback came on way, my free electric plan!

When I came home from hospital I went to old drawing board
A nuclear reactor at my basement - can't afford!
Trash-burning power plant is out of question, it is banned -
I clearly had some problems with my free electric plan!

I read a book of Netherlands and thought of those windmills
Wind turbine, it would be my way to shrink electric bills
And as the global warming seems to be here now to stay
a solar panel is the way for amperage, oi vey
I went to local junkyard and old turbo of car bought
Connected it to my boiler and a generator sought
My furnace in the winter will be feeding steam - yes, man!
The turbo grinds the AC, that's my free electric plan!

Does this parody belong on amiright.com or at survivalblog.com? The original was last played on Kansas City radio in 1975. Surprised it is not more often used here. My own take on it was called "Wee Electric Van". If you could really derive most of your electrical needs from solar power, the government would find some way to tax sunlight. A steam turbine might work. Just have to find fuel. Years ago I read a book about Haiti. Apparently stealing electricity via car jumper cables to overhead power lines was quite common there. A friend of mine told me his grandmother found a way to sneak an extension cord from her house to a neighbor and siphon off power. A good parody. Nice to see some of the "old timers" on AIR once in a while.
