Original Performer:

Abba

Parody Song Title:

"Commando"

Parody Written by:

Rick Cormier

The Lyrics

Like the OS, this parody is about freedom. If you are not familiar with the term "going commando", it is when a guy dresses without putting on underwear. How free can you get?On one Seinfeld episode, Kramer was appalled at first by the suggestion that he go without underwear. He said that, "His boys need a home!". After trying it out, he was elated and, from his descriptions of it, Jerry and Elaine were the ones that were appalled. There is another Amiright parody to this same OS with the title "Commando" but, it is about real commandos.DKTOS? There is a copy here temporarily: http://www.putfile.com/ricloose
Have you ever gone "Commando"?
Have you ever just gone wild and left your underwear at home?
There is danger in "Commando"
For a zipper could catch on to something tender, make you bawl
It could ruin you for months
But, isn't freedom worth the risk of losing all?

Lose the boxers, go "Commando"
Take your fruit out of their looms, you're OK without BVDs
Trash the briefs and go "Commando"
Nothing now to crush your grapes
Into a pulp and make you whine
And there's no "fly-fishing" done
At urinals when sets of garments don't align

I am flopping in the air tonight
To left and right. "Commando"
There is little now confining me
Ah, liberty! "Commando"
Though, at first, I thought it might be weird,
There's no regret
It's a feeling you won't find again
I tell you men, "Commando"

It's a feeling you won't find again
Come on, be men, "Commando"

I'm a rebel, I'm "Commando"
My girlfriend says it's nice to have it now so close at hand
But I can't control "Old Brando"
There are times my girl will scowl at me and flash the evil eye
She can see too easily it pleases me
Each time a pretty girl walks by

I'm forgoing underwear that's tight
That wedge, that bite, "Commando"
There is nothing now beneath these jeans
But Frank and beans, "Commando"
Oh, I'm never wearing skivvies now
There's no regret
Sometimes hear when I am wearing shorts
"What's that thing, sport?" "Commando"

When shorts hang too loosely on my legs
"Sausage and eggs", "Commando"
They are lying there for all to see
I'm wild and free, "Commando"
Oh, I went and emptied out my draw'rs
There's no regret
Sometimes when I get excited there's
A lot of stares "Commando"

Hey guys, if women can show off their boobs
Roll out your tubes "Commando"

(Fade out slowly in the end like underwear do)

A brilliant idea for a song =) I tried my own take on the subject awhile back. Well done, love the Something About Mary reference, and many other good lines.

Reminds me of the story about Dexy's Midnight Runners, who were made to "go commando" when filming their "Come On Eileen" video. I'm old enough to remember TOS, which is probably the best song ABBA ever put out.
alvin rhodes - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
funny as hell...goin' commando today in honor of this
Adagio - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
LOL!!! I never even knew half those terms before I read this...I don't know which is the funniest line , so let's just say the whole parody. 5's....lots of them.
Johnny D - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
5s, freakin' brilliant! You have just GOT to do this at the comedy club, Rick! And do this parody at the comedy club, too.
Phil Alexander - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
Favourite line was the "Freedom" one on the first verse. This is hilarious, and would work so very well as a performance number (the song, I mean... jeez..)
Rick C - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks, Jeff. You know, until you mentioned it, I wasn’t even aware that I stole that from that movie. At least I got it from a good source. Thanks, Steve. I didn’t know that either. Thanks, Alvin. Just be careful with those shorts. Adagio, thanks a lot. Yes, this site can be very educational. You’ve taught me a few things too only, the things you’ve taught me, I wouldn’t be embarrassed to repeat in front of my mother. Thanks, Johnny. Coming from you, I take that as a very high compliment. Did you hear Jeff Reuben will be in Boston in November. We should meet up with him. Thanks, Phil. Always good to hear from you, sir.

You are a certified (or certifiable) parody GENIUS, Mr Cormier! This is ass-crackingly funny. 555+
Rick C - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
Thank you, Kristof. If I make YOU laugh, that's a good thing. Thanks for all the lines you've cracked me up with. That goes for the rest of you too.

Thanks, AFW. I thought yours today was a hoot too.
Stuart McArthur - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
brilliant Rick, and might I say the pacing flow was a treat, as was the syllable-matching - *shifts uncomfortably* er, so you call yours Old Brando too? (that's weird) - I loved the euphemisms too (fruit and looms, frank and beans etc.) - 555
Lionel Mertens - July 25, 2006 - Report this comment
Underwear has now become under where? 5's
Red Ant - July 26, 2006 - Report this comment
Not an ABBA fan, but I did d/l TOS (LimeWire). "Nothing now to crush your grapes/Into a pulp and make you whine" was just one of many great lines. Very funny work Rick. 555
Rick C - July 26, 2006 - Report this comment
Thank you, Stu. Yeah, the pacing in the verses was a lot trickier than I thought it would be going into this one. I call mine "Old Brando" any time it works in the rhyme scheme. The "fly-fishing" line was part of a joke I had written for my comedy act but, decided to use here instead.

Thanks for popping in Lionel:-)

I'm not an Abba fan either, Jack. Thanks for the comments and votes bro.
Arwen - July 28, 2006 - Report this comment
HOLY MOLY!! This is just freaking fabulous, Rick! Perfectly paced, along with fabulous rhymes...and of course, just the funny FUNNY premise...I LOVE it!

Some favorite bits:

Take your fruit out of their looms
I can't control "Old Brando"
"What's that thing, sport?" "Commando"

L to the freaking OL...all around!!

Sorry I missed it earlier in the week...but this is DEFINITELY worth coming back for. Just excellent...=)

Glad this wasn't about the Ahnold movie "Commando," which was as bad as his Governorship has been. Steve K: It may just be the best song ABBA ever put out. Which tells me all I need to know about that musical monstrosity.
Rick C - July 28, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks, Mr. and Mrs. Pacholek.

Yes, this is definitely funny, and not what "Commando" usually brings to mind. You should mail this to Bill Clinton! -- MM

(SOTM) Very, very funny, Rick. Although some guys may not be able to pull it off, if you can perhaps you'd be even more comfortable in a nice pair of leather pants...awoooooo!

And regarding earlier comments about ABBA's music, after listening to the OS for this as well as listening to "Mamma Mia" for Kristof's ABC-D entry, I've discovered to my horror that I actually kind of *shudder* LIKE those songs. But I guess I can file them next to Meat Loaf in my guilty pleasures.

Rick C - August 27, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks to Chris, Paula, the Charnstar, Kristof, Michael, Cat, Matthias, Agrimorfee, Max, K1and pieman.

Once again, I find that someone with an axe to grind is using SOTM to ding me, undeservedly, for pacing. You should check out E-bay and see if you can win an auction on a life. You desperately need one!

While you're at it, maybe you can bid on a new set of balls too. The ones you have now would only serve to produce another idiot.

Fantastic, Rick. I'm glad you've chosen Amiright to air out your comedy bits. The freedom line, "fruit out of their looms," "Old Brando," and "grapes...whine" are all great, but "fly fishing" is classic.

(SOTY) "Hey guys, if women can show off their boobs Roll out your tubes "Commando"" You always through in a line at the end that blows your parodies out of the water. I liked this one much better than Chia Pests. . .To be honest, I seem to like all of your work, and your recordings. . .

Outstanding. I was hoping against hope someone hadn't already thought of this idea, but not only has it been done, but brilliantly here.
