If you haven't seen "White Heat" (1949; dir.: Raoul Walsh), James Cagney plays Cody Jarrett, an oedipal, psychopathic criminal seeking affection/affiliation from, respectively, his mother (Margaret Wycherly) and his wife (Virginia Mayo). As he stands triumphantly atop a gasoline storage tank at a refinery he's just tried to rob, his final line is: "Made it ma, top of the world!" Then the tank explodes.
