The Lyrics

** FYI - The actual full title of this piece is "Sitting Up Here in My Attic(Between a Lake and a Hard Place)". It wouldn't fit so I removed the part in parentheses from the Title Bar...Another fine old Traffic song here that no one has used before on this site...
{Brief instrumental intro}

Sitting up here in my attic
Place where I once used to live
Hope that help is coming
Water covers up the floor
Now it's up above the door
Rising, not receding

Attic starts to bake
How long can I last without fresh water?
it's so hot here
From the water beneath
think I see rising steam

{Brief instrumental}

Standing up now on a rafter
Water now above my feet
Soaked shoes; tightened leather
Would be nice if they were dry
dehydration clouds my mind
Thinking isn't measured

How long will it take?
Don't think I can stay up here much longer
House is now a lake
If I were a fish I might belong here
But now I fear
That I won't be rescued
in that case, well, I am screwed

{Instrumental break}
{sung lightly during break}
(Screwed - yes I'm screwed - surely screwed - yes, I'm screwed)

Stuck up here, I'm getting frantic
What will now become of me?
When will help be coming? (FEMA; out there bumbling)
Sure hope help is coming (Managed by some dummy)
Hungry; stomach rumbling (Ineptness; mind-numbing)
Frightened; now I'm wond'ring (Poor folks; are they shunning?)
What if.....

{Start of long instrumental break}
{Spoken} (What if no one's coming?)

{Sung lightly}
(What if no one's coming?)
(Hungry; my stomach's rumbling)

(Sure hope help is coming)
(Frightened and now I'm wondering)

(When will help be coming?)
(Hope FEMA is not bumbling)

(Don't think help is coming)
(Frightened; I sure am wondering)

Frightened; now I quake
Think I saw a snake 'bout eight feet long here
Shiver and I shake
Wonder; will the rescue team arrive here?
One thing is clear
If they don't find me soon
This place will be my tomb

{Brief instrumentals to end}
{sing during final instrumental part}
(My Tomb - 'cause I'm Doomed, it's my Tomb)
(Doomed)

Paul--DKTOS but it was well stated. A little scary when one really thnks about it.

Thanks, carol...yes, it IS very scary. A few evenings ago I was thinking about just how awful that situation would be...you know, I believe that by in past time (I hope it's past-times, anyway) that used to be a form of torture...putting someone in a room with a ceiling and no way out and slowing filling it with water...ugly...YUCK! I probably shouldn't have mentioned...they might start doing it at Gitmo...
