every four years it happens
talking trash and policy spin
out on the stumps with bluster
no matter what state they are in
I know those republicans love me
they make me smile every day
I chuckle over and over
at nearly everything they say

it’s that kind of republican humor that starts me every day
I chuckle right along with them at nearly everything they say

the republicans are so hysterical
their policies so out of date
that a decades-gone bad actor
is who they still emulate
those reds are so regressive
that their winning candidate
may choose a long-dead cowboy
as his avatar running-mate

it’s that old-time republican humor keeps me going every day
I chuckle right along with them at nearly anything they say

they love their Ronald Reagan
a dead man they still call great
he cut taxes – then he raised them
to correct his bad mistake
because they’re government aversive
they’ve never learned to legislate
their unfettered profit motive
corrupts every action that they take

with all that republican humor I just giggle every day away
because profit is all that matters at the end of everybody’s day

that old republican humor always keeps me satisfied
