The Lyrics

This may sound like something out of the Sixties, but every so often some anti feminist backlash crops up. The latest offender is the Baptist Church.
What did you learn in Sunday school,
Dear little girls of mine?
Did you learn about the Golden Rule,
Dear little girls of mine?

I learned that girls are different from boys,
So girls should play with little girl toys.
Be delecate and be poli -et,
Don't play rough, but just be quiet.
That's what I learned in Sunday school,
That's what I learned today.

What did you learn in Sunday school,
Dear little girls of mine?
Did you learn why God chose Israel,
Dear little girls of mine?

I learned that girls should be demure,
Be shy and modest and be pure.
They shouldn't try to act like men -
They'll think that you're a Lesbian.
That's what I learned in Sunday school,
That's what I learned today.

What did you learn in Sunday school,
Dear little girls of mine?
Did you learn about the Top Ten Rules,
Dear little girls of mine?

I learned there's men's and women's work -
Our wifely duties we must not shirk.
I learned that woman was made for man -
To be a helpmate to her husband.
That's what I learned in Sunday school,
That's what I learned today.

What did you learn in Sunday school,
Dear little girls of mine?
Did you learn how Jesus healed the ill,
Dear little girls of mine?

I learned girls came from Adam's rib,
The devil started woman's lib.
A woman's goal is to be a wife,
And that's how she should live her life.
That's what I learned in Sunday school,
That's what I learned today.

DKTOS, but it was a good read anyway. Made me laugh.

Thanks, Alvin, Tor, and 59. Pardon the typo in the title. By the way, those are not Bible based teachings - they are ideas taken out of context. That was the point of my parody.

from my understanding, it sounds more like a sequel to the OS than a parody.

Me, I'm just gonna get a Viet Namese wife... DKTOS, but Fives for fine social satire.

As a Sunday School teacher (Methodist, 5th/6th grades) I appreciate this parody. I have had several outstanding young women go through my class whom I expect to make significant contributions in whatever fields they enter. I looked for, but did not find, this story. Do you still have a link, 2Eagle?

To name one source, read Our Endangered Values by Jimmy Carter. He disassociated himself from the Baptist church because of their stand against the women's movement.

Actually, the song was originally done by The Chad Mit chell Trio, for their album "Reflecting" (1964). I remember when it first came out. GREAT parody!

2Eagle, you should have written "In Sunday School" instead of "Insunday school". Other than that, this was a good parody, but I DKTOS, so no vote.

Penn and Teller would have loved this parody!
