The Lyrics

When the new U.S. Senate convenes in January 2015, we can sing this parody of TOS.
Whatever became of Harry?
The man who was Senate's king?
Once he droned from his throne,
Now he sits down to moan.
What will the next two years bring?

Once inspiring Libs who could hear him,
Ah, but now when he speaks, they don't fear him.
Lead Minority's hard part, Mitch knows,
When the press crews won't let you oppose.

"We must protest unseatment, Harry,"
Says each Blue Statist heeder.
As some young dunce remarked on Barry,
"Trained teleprompter reader."

(Sorry about that)

Forever the lame duck, Harry?
Dismissed, you'll go dwell unseen.
Are you sad at your loss? Are you blathering dross
While you wait for Twenty-Sixteen?

McConnell, forestalling Reid's Mi-nor-i-ty,
Says, "I'll do unto you like you did unto me!"
Do you dream about staging a coup?
Harry, what happened to you?

The danger for Republicans is that terms expire in December 2016 for 24 of their Senators versus only 10 Democrats.

UN-fortunately...especially in the last 100 years or so...it's more each cycle like a scullery event; w/o having both sides work together in the middle, you either go too far off course to the dominant side and miss the mutual success of reaching the common goal...and with a majority or total imbalance, (or a bunch of RINO's and DINO's with the same goals but just different ideas of how to get there) all you do is go in circles! Just one swings hard left and the other hard right! Not familiar with the original song, so can't comment on the comparisons. Sorry!

Didn't you hear, Barry Mitchell? Harry Reid is now the new Senate MINORITY Leader (wa wa wa waaaa ...) And Nancy Pelosi's fortunes have sunk so low, she's going to be named Squeeker of The House (da da da daa ...ooooh!)

Another hit for sure, Barry. And this reminds us what we have lost -- the days when the "loyal opposition" was truly loyal. The days of Hubert Humphrey -- a truly honorable man, recognized as such by those on both sides of the aisle -- are now only a fond memory for those of us who are old enough to remember. As far as Dirty Harry and Crazy Auntie Nancy, let us dearly hope they never regain any real power.

@ Steve: Not familiar with the original song? Just click on TOS link or use a search engine for Youtube.
@ Callmelennie: I did hear, that's why I wrote this. But the leadership doesn't change until January.
@ Dana: Thanks; I agree that the fadeout of Hubert was deserving of lament, unlike Harry or Nancy.

One thing is for sure: Harry Reid will never be the Majority Leader again. He's up in 2016 anyway, and the odds of him running for another term aren't good. And even if he does, the Democrats would be fools to elect him their Leader again, especially when it will (almost certainly) be Hillary driving the ticket back to the majority. Pelosi might be back. Certainly, Debbie Wasserman Schultz needs to be replaced as DNC chair.
