Song Parodies -> "Spurn And Frown, FG: Me"

Original Song Title:

"Turn Around, Look At Me"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

The Vogues

Parody Song Title:

"Spurn And Frown, FG: Me"

Parody Written by:

Fiddlegirl and Tommy Turtle

The Lyrics

Previously recorded by several others, but The Vogues' 1968 release made it to #7 (best), so they get the credit here. The fact that The Vogues were from Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, played no part at all in that decision.

First draft was actually ad libbed in real time during a chat session while working on "My Bravery, Dings". Video here. (title wrong; song right)

There is someone
Gawking behind you
Turn around
Look at me

There is someone
Watching your mis-steps
Turn around
See TT

There is someone
You feel impedes you
Be apart?
Have him banned?

Turn around (yearn: astound?)
Look at me (bookworm, be)
And understand (pun, demand)...

Though this "someone" --
-- Chew and deride you;
Sternly hound:
That's TT

And this: from one --
-- Whose pacing guide --- (Ewww!!!) [1]
Learn, don't frown
Brook TT

Oh, I've grated?
You're ungrateful, ever
Won't you --
--- Succumb to me?

Look at someone (schnook, a dumb one?)
No one above you (top, shoves you)
Earn renown
Hook with me!

Partner, found
Write ... with ... me!

Nicely done on this great old song.

Listened to the OS the first time and loved it! I enjoyed every moment of this as well. Very funny, very sweet. I also liked the Bee Gees version of the OS as well. Here's some sentimental 5's! BTW, I hope someday that I could team up with someone, if I get into writing parodies again. This also sounds like AFW's, John Barry's and your type of music (of course) that they can use this OS to parody!

DKTOS, but it seemed like a good synopsis of what went on before FG and TT started writing parodies together, put into the form of a song. Christie: I would be happy to co-write a parody with you, if and when you start writing parodies again, and if and when I recover from writer's block.

*Great* OS and neatly employed! "Hook with me" indeed! LOL! And I'm betting the temptation to morph "Oh I've grated?" as "Yo, I've greated!" was huge!

Timmy1000: Thanks-- We just turned around, and there it was! :D Glad you enjoyed. Awaiting *your* next parody, btw-- been awhile! :)

CMM: Aww... sentimental 5s... with emphasis on the "mental", I presume? [I also think TT may have meant to say "suck up to me" instead of "succumb to me", now that I look at it. But *I'm* not saying a word!] ;)

Hi, Andria: Yep, before, during, *and* after! Never stops. but it's worth it. :)

TJC: Isn't "Hook" enjoyable on so many levels here? :) [And LOL @ "Yo, I've greated!"] Thanks for vote and clever comments, as always!

You had me "hooked" from the start Fiddlegirl. And Tommy's not bad either. ;-D

blackjack21: I love you, too, Bro. ;-(       :-D ... thanks for v/c!

As for me, I'd rather be just passed over by FG than contracted by any other writer. ;D

Old Man Ribber: Thought this comment was about "I Cain't Pee, Babe".... "contracted", etc. ... my mistake. .... Yep, TT snagged the prize gamefish of them all, if she'll pardon that particular metaphor. But that's exactly what I metaphor!

(omg, new low in punnery). .. Thanks for v/c!

OS was one of my faves back in the day, when I was young and carefree. But still enjoyed alot now that I'm not so young but much more careful. Much fun, both of you!

Great Job Fiddlegirl and Tommy Turtle! I've got a parody of this one in the works only mine is done originally by the Lettermen. And will be based on the movie "Silent HIll" But anyway, Really, Really, Great Job!! Really funny, and follows original nicely 5, 5, 5! :-)

seweweno and Wild Child Jin: Heard TOS on the radio today -- the Vogues' version (VV?), which charted highest. Lettermen good, too. But not Letterman LOL! ;-)

seweweno: Those were the days.... Thanks for v/c! :-D

Wild Child Jin: Looking forward to it -- but isn't that the one where it's creepy, like a stalker? (That thought actually occurred to TT when TOS came out... he's following her.... ) Thanks for v/c!

I salute the two of you: "One shell, under TT, for rhyming and the fiddling pursuit of laughter to us all...."

Hello, Stranger! (Barbara Lewis). Where ya been? Nice to see ya, and thanks for the v//p! (Pledge) .... and yeah, "under TT" is FG's fave place -- can't say as I blame her. ;-)
