The Lyrics

Michael, I saw your song and immediately thought of "Love Potion Number 9"._____ Yes, you inspired this._____ Hope you don't mind me piggy backing on your idea._____ Just had to do this._____For a look at Michael's parody visit this link: http://www.amiright.com/parody/90s/loubegga0.shtml
Halogen bubbles like 100 proof,
Won't get you tipsy but will help your tooth.
This is what you get with fifty-four combined,
Hexafluoride models from a-tomic number nine.

This corrosive gas is chock full of tricks,
I-sol-a-ted in 1886.
I know what its number but I don't know its sign,
Found it by its number, atomic number nine.

It was found and rendered down in somebody's sink,
But when they went to bake it, it made such a big stink.
The gas was serpentine, it looked like yellowish ink,
It burnt their nose, and teared their eyes, it made them blink.

They didn't know if they would lose their sight,
It started hissin' thought it would ignite.
But when it started poppin' for the thirty-fourth time,
It fried up in the bottle, that a-tomic number nine.

------ guitar solo ------

Halogen bubbles like 100 proof,
Won't get you tipsy but will help your tooth.
This is what you get with fifty-four combined,
Hexafluoride models from a-tomic number nine.

Love science parodies, Guy - great work here! When I was at M.I.T. (before I dropped out), they used to grade on a 5-point scale instead of the more traditional collegiate 4-point scale, with a 5.0 being an "M.I.T. A ". So I give you three M.I.T. A's for this elementary halogenic parody!

Your song is a gas....

Billy's comment reminded me of a really dumb joke my friend Brent told me once while we were both in graduate school...

Two sisters, Helen and Jennifer, died in a car accident and went to Heaven. They were fitted with wings, and Helen received a harp and a glowing circle over her head. However, Jennifer looked up and saw that instead of a glowing circle, there was a murky yellow cloud of chlorine gas.

Jennifer looked at St. Peter and said, "What is this over my head?"

St. Peter replied, "Oh, that's a halo, Jen."

*groan* :-D

The principal has to sign the diploma before the student can receive it, but Michelle ran up to get hers too quickly, and they all said, "Wait 'til the nun signs, Shelly."

Can I be a real nit-picker here, and say that Fluorine won't help your teeth at all...it'll eat through them; Fluoride, OTOH.. Anyway, that was fun, Guy :-)
Guy - November 17, 2003 - Report this comment
But Phil, if you do as the song says and combine atomic 9 with atomic 54 you get Hexafluoride, and everyone knows that fluoride is suppossed to be good for tooth maintenance. According to what I read it made several different fluoride compounds and whether this one is any good for the teeth I do not know. Any chem. majors out there?
Phil Alexander - November 17, 2003 - Report this comment
Well, my degree was Chemistry, Biochem and Computing... isn't 54 Xenon? Surely Xenon hexafluoride isn't what they use in toothpaste.. I'd have thought it was one of the more simple fluorides, like sodium or potassium... (fx: goes off to google..)

"In toothpaste, fluoride is found in the form of sodium monofluorophosphate, stannous fluoride, or sodium fluoride."

Wow, Guy knows about compounds other than the one in Waco!

This reminds me of another silly joke from my friend:

See, Dodge was going to name its economy car the Dodge Fluorine, but they decided it wasn't noble enough.

:-D
Rice Cube - November 24, 2003 - Report this comment
FYI: Neon is the noble gas right next to fluorine on the periodic table.
