The Lyrics

Hey You! Yeah...You! If you like dogs (or cats) and have a place with space and can afford the feed and other needs, think about adopting one from the local pound. While I don't currently have enough room for one I do donate to the local SPCA and I have a number of friends who have ended up with really nice pets who would otherwise have been put to death. Yeah, people are important, too...but that's a different parody theme for perhaps a different day.
Had a dog named "Old Yeller"
I got him from the pound
Guess he was a lucky fellow
On Monday he'd have been a dead hound

His owner left him there on the street
The pound was gonna put him to sleep
I looked at him and asked how things were
And he said "Ruff-uh-uh-uff"

That mutt was looking really sad
Abandoned by some bastard; a cad
If I could get my hands on him now
I'd teach him a lesson, and how

But time was short; I had to hurry
And suddenly I realized
I had to quickly bail that pooch out
Or soon he would be euthanized

I raced right to my Auto-teller
Drew out the cash that I would need
Through traffic lights no longer yellow
Pedal to the metal - my feet

When "Old Yeller" saw me
He wagged his tail and barked out loud
I smiled and said to him, "Hey Fella,
let's head on home"

What a great dog, "Old Yeller"
And now he's sure a happy fellow
He's happy as he can be
Got a place to sleep and lots to eat
