The Lyrics

WHo would dare touch a classic song like this? I will! I consider mysef to a Secular Humanist (a sort of atheist). Why does man have to anthropomorphize aspects of his nature to get along in this world? Good and Evil are in all of Humankind so I decidd to look at this classic tune from the viewpoint of the darker side of Homo Sapiens Sapiens versus any imaginary Deity Anthropomorphize - to assign human beliefs and aspects to something not human (or something not proven to exist)
No Pity For Humankind

(Sung to "Sympathy For The Devil" by The Rolling Stones)

Why should I introduce myself?
When I have been a part of you all along?
As long as Homo Sapiens holds dominance...
I will as long be strong!

I became Baal, Set and Loki
and my domain was Hel or Hell!
But to tell the truth, I didn't exist
until you anthropomorphized that part of yourself!

I already know you!
You even gave me a name!
and what amuses me...
is that I am oft to blame!

I was abhorred when the humans waged war
adding more human misery to existing discord....
Humans blamed me for atrocities...
When a human pushed the button at Trinity!

You prayed to God!
(Yes , every God!)
That you would be spared
and the dead would be over there...

Yes I know you!
and I revel in my name! Oh Yeah!
Because it is nature most human
to project blame!

All the while
it was humanity
killing again and again
to increase misery!

Now with little Mahmoud
and Kim Jong Un
you'll spout peace platitudes
but the killing isn't done..(is it?)

And as you strive for eternity
I will always be by your side!
Don't speak of your faigned civility..
you are an angry monkey under a tree!

Don't you know me?
You should look in a mirror!
If you look long enough..
You will be filled with fear! oh yeah, get down, humans

If you see me!
You''ll know that I am you!
I am part of you!
And there's nothing you can do!

Just as humans are Go(o)d and (D)evil
Depending on different days!
Flip a coin..
and call me humankind!
I'm in need of some restraint!

So if you meet me
Have some courtesy
Because there's no telling what I'll do!
I may show you my Godly side..
(But I can show my Evil side too!)

Now you know me!
As you are humbled in your pain, um yeah
But you'll still lash out
And play terrorism games...um mean it, get down
Woo, who
Oh yeah, get on down
Oh yeah
Oh yeah!
Tell me humans, I'm really you!
For the good...and the bad you do!
Tell me humans. who will you hate
or like Mother Teresa, hate negate!
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah
What's my name
Tell me one last time, man is my name
Tell me no more. 'cause your're to blame
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Ooo, who, who
Oh, yeah

Did the Devil make you do this? Nothing I've ever seen attributed to Satan could come close to what evil men have done.

Good idea and ambitious concept. Not much attention to syllable count or to match the rhyme phonetics, though, so I scored it down for technical reasons. I never cared for the song much (Stones trying to be 'relevant', but just sounding pretentious). Anthropomorphic or inanimate, I find gods irrelevant too.

We're still designed to be aggressive, competitive omnivores of the woods and plains, and when resources are scarce or demand is overloaded, we're capable of anything. The veneer of civilization is thin, but I still believe in its power to rescue us from our own cruelty and it's what makes us special among the animal kingdom. The problem with organized religion is it defines the nature of good and evil, which is not consensually possible and very subjective. Anyway, blah blah. Good to see you reaching for depth in this way.
