The Lyrics

US Senator Edward M. Kennedy held his seat in the Senate for 46+ years, and probably would have for another 46 had he not passed away recently. This is the third-longest term for any US Senator in history, and the Democrats considered that they had a "lock" on the seat -- until Republican Scott Brown's come-from-behind, upset victory on January 19th, 2010.

(We generally limit ourselves to two posts per day, so as not to hog the home page, but the other two were already submitted when FG came up with this idea, which remains topical only while the historic change of party in one US Senate seat from Massachusetts is fresh news. Please forgive this once.)
Too many Dems thought this "blue state" was their Zion
They had a clear shot to keep it their very own
But, hey, they've dropped now
Glimpse of lefties
No longer laughin'
Play down vict'ry [1]
Lost some clout now
(Look at 'em sweat, there)
Voters together
Were just a little riled
Even Obama fell through
Hey! Look here:
Repub's, replyin'
46 years?

(Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi:)
Cry

(Senate Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid:)
Why?

Now when "The One" sums up
His Marxist plots
He'll see S. Brown there
Lookin' up
Now O can't save
The "plan" we fear
No longer see "blue"[2]
Gone "red" now
Dems, way down, sneer [1]
Wonderin' how
They're gonna screw you
Se-cret pow-wow [3]
They'll just bribe, cry; unjust try [4]

Much too severe flop for one part-y that's dyin'
So many smears, drop, on one guy
For truckin' on [5]
Just wave bye-bye: forty-six years
One lyin' guy: forty-six years
Folks askin' why? Why, why, why? How?
Dems just deny, -ny, -ny, ny
Falls on deaf ears (c'mon and let 'em hear your voice, now!)
Ninety-six cheers (Whoo!) We wanna hear you shout!
Go away, yeah, you're all wrong
November's here: Vote 'em out!
C'mon, people! Let us hear you yell now, loud and strong
A brand new frontier now! Yay! Start fresh, now
The Left disappears!

[1] The attempts by the Democrats to "spin" the loss as something other than a rejection of their first year in complete control of both the White House and Congress began even before the results were official. These "spin" attempts were far more ridiculous than anything said by *either* candidate during the campaign.

[2] (For non-US) Refers to the by-now standard practice of showing the political map of the US with predominantly-Democratic states in blue, and predominantly-Republican states in red.

[3] The health-care debate that was supposed to be in the open and televised, now to be held in secret, as per the parody linked in the intro.

[4] There were rumors and some talk of delaying the seating of Senator-Elect Brown until *after* ramming through the President's garbled health care plan, though public outcry will probably prevent such shenanigans.

[5] Also see the intro-linked parody for President Obama's snide remarks about Candidate Brown's truck.

Barbara Walters is alleged to have had an affair with the last Massachusetts Republican senator Ed Brooke. Watch out, Brown! (Great job again) ;D

A second thanks to Phil, and much gratitude to OMR, and NorCALcougaress (That would make him an *Urbane Cowboy*...) :)

Old Man Ribber: But he's not *really* "brown", and maybe that's Bawa's preference? ... Never hear that rumor -- interesting, sort of. Yeah, Brown needs to run like crazy from that one! Thanks for v/c!

NorCALcougaress: I'll bet for you, he would ;-) Look at it this way: For the first time in more than a hundred years, we have a Congressman with nothing to hide - literally! ;) A re-nude sense of ethics ;) Thanks for v/c!

Sorry, missed this gem earlier... Now this is 'covered' bridge I can believe in--Chapaquickly! Loved the unpredictable verbiage (ie, Zion, marxist plots, glimpse of Lefties and secret pow-wows) and informative quadrupedal annotations (feetnotes!)!
BTW: What's an appropriate 'emoji' for "b****en, Dude n' Dudette?"
Tommy Turtle - January 29, 2010 - Report this comment
TJC: Thanks, chap-o'-quip-pick! ... Better ask BJ21 about emoticons, as he seems to have a never-ending supply :-) ... and how 'bout "flipper-notes? :)
