The Lyrics

In the bankruptcy negotiations for the largest city yet, it is reported that while pensions and health insurance contracts for unionized public employees likely will be preserved, holders of the municipal debt may get a severe "haircut" of the face value of their bonds. This echoes the shellacking taken by GM and Chrysler bondholders in those bailouts from the federal till five years ago, contrary to established bankruptcy law whereby bonds are redeemed in full first. CHFUDNKTOS.
Stockton, California shocked then failed to warn ya;
Stockton, California let slide payout once again.
Stockton, California socked bondholders, shorn ya!
Stockton, California pratfell down fat unions' den.

If you'd like to have a logical explanation,
How when cap'tal lenders sell, began sinking nation,
I will say, "This rout can foment capitulation;
Scared bond marketplace demands higher rates."

Talk hosts callous scorn ya, Stockton, California,
Not Big Easy; and with barest chance, blue workers roam
From Stockton, California. Blocked-out talent mourns ya;
Stockton's Californians by droves flee homes.

A secondary cause of the deficits was flight of higher-income residents as tax rates were raised.

Some very good substitutions, but the reliance on syllable matching appears to have led to some awkward wording. And I don't understand the changing of the tense from present to past in the second line of the second verse.

Let's give it up for "Detroit west". 555

MW aka ?: Call my tense-switch poetic license, due to reliance on syllable matching. 5-4-3?

...but it's not the Democrats' fault. Totally couldn't be. Must be greedy Republicans'. Somehow.

Oops! GM/Chrysler bailouts were 4 (not 5) years ago, i.e., under Obama's dictat (not Bush's).

@BJM - What? You think that, because you had good intentions in writing this parody and because it does have some clever elements, you are ENTITLED to 5-5-5? If I didn't know better, I would think you were a liberal.

@MW: Change "began sinking nation" to "fear can bring inflation" (same tense as "sell").
I didn't expect 5-5-5, just "overall" somewhere between "pacing" and "how funny" ratings.
