"Dorians"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Dorians were Greek-speakers who migrated to Greece after 1200 BC and considered Doris, in central Greece, their homeland. They claimed descent from the son of Hercules. Doric columns are one of the three types in classical Greek architecture, the other two being Ionic and Corinthian. Dolmas are rolled, stuffed grape leaves. I can't vouch for anything else in this parody.
Like to tell you 'bout some ancients.
You know, they came around
And breached the Greeks' back door.
They came by sea and by ground

And from everything I hear,
With the Greeks they did fight.
But then they got on so good
For the time of empire's height.

And their name was D-o-r-i-a-
D-o-r-i-a-n, Dorian,
D-o-r-i-a-n, Dorians.

Yeah, they would shout when they'd fight, Dorians.
And they were soused most every day, Dorians.
Tau, tau, tau, pi, pi, pi.

From what I do hear, just about mid-height, short!
And their homeland was Doris.
Politically, they were to the right.
They had pavin' on their streets,
And on each and every house,
Columns were Doric--
Would you expect Corinthian?!--
And they soared to enormous height.

D-o-r-i-a-n, Dorian,
D-o-r-i-a-n, Dorians.
Yeah, they would shout when they'd fight, Dorians.
And they were soused most every day, Dorians.

Cook so good, Dorians
Delight, love that food, dolmas.
Um-um-um-um!

I believe that the Dorians were the last of the Greeks to arrive in Greece (if that makes any sense), to join their cousins, the Ionians, Aeoleans and Achaeans. This migration rearranged the political landscape of Greece, and most likely ended the Mycenean civilization. Ain't ancient history fun?
