Parody Song Title:

"Domesday Tax Platoon"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Domesday tax platoon:
They are coming after me,
and they’ll make me pay.
Not a trace of levity
as levies come my way.

Hope they don’t haul me
away from my small plot here,
where I barely get by.
I cannot afford a beer
if they jack rates up high.

The book is comprehensive, the first of its kind;
William the Conqueror’s put many in a bind.
I don’t mind paying my fair share, but here’s the rub:
I support nobles while for my grub I must grub.

Domesday Tax Platoon (3X)

Domesday tax dragoons,
They are coming after me,
I sense, any day.
Apace and with brevity
they may soon take me away.

Hope they don’t maul me—
give a cauliflower ear,
also a blackened eye.
Worse—lay me out on a bier
with nary a “goodbye.”

Historical and hysterical. The word play - particularly "levity/levies" - is stellar.
