Parody Song Title:

"Another Myth About The Monkees"

Parody Written by:

MooRocca

The Lyrics

They didn't play their instruments
Or so you think
But no, you're wrong

They sang 'n played, produced 'n wrote
And fought for input on their songs

Another myth about the Monkee-ees
Pre-fab "made for TV" band
And no complaints from D.A.R., my friend
Jimi quit, because of their fans

Behind the stage, I'm sorry babe
No hidden singers, in a booth
Did Micky D. do porno scenes?
His part was clothed, the rest's untrue.

Another myth about the Monkee-ees
Mugwumps Peter-less, I swear
It's true his pals went on to greater fame
With his, they all disappeared

Manson sought no role
He wasn't on parole
It was a joke some folks believed
Nez didn't learn to play
To heal his hand, no way
He learned to play by listeni-i-ing

One of the best concerts I've ever been to was at the Greek theater in LA. Double bill with Weird Al and the Monkees. Best behaved crowd too.The released an album in the 90's called "Justus". I'm sure you know why. We should start a Monkees trivia thread.

Thanks! You were at the Greek? You lucky dog! Speaking of dogs, yeah, I know about JustUs. *grin.* Trivia sounds fun.

Micky doing porno? That's a frightening thought... Good job Melhi.

Thanks sloatead and Merri! Merri... Yep, we can all be thankful that wasn't the case *G.* That one got started because he played a bus driver in a bawdy, politically incorrect, (but *not* porno,) political comedy starring Linda Lovelace. "Liinda Lovelace for President." I haven't seen it, yet, but I guess it's something of a cult classic. Looked this up, just for you: there's a little about it at: http://hotwired.wired.com/movies/96/35/linda.html They describe it as Mel Brooks meets Benny Hill.

Ack... I am sorry, I meant "Merry," with a "Y" (Hanging head in shame.)

While flipping through some of the cable music channels, I came upon Micky Dolenz playing a children's sond for the For Kids Only channel. Great job on the parody!

"Mugwumps"? I don't get it. That's OK. Pacing off in places, but funny.
Melhi - March 05, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Alvin, Tim and Agrimorfee. Agrimorfee, the Mugwumps later became the Mamas and Papas. Curious where the pacing was off for you, for my own future reference. Tim... if you liked Micky's songs for kids, look for a copy of "Micky Dolenz Puts You To Sleep" (it's not bad) or keep an eye out for he and his sister Coco to resume their touring with concerts for children, after his stint on Broadway ends. Alvin, how'd you like that dancing horn section? I managed to catch only one show on that tour, in Knoxville, TN... great fun.

Melhi, I used to have pictures of The Monkees plastered all over my bedroom wall. I liked Mickey best because he was funny, and funny will get me every time. Fives!

Thanks Diva and Jan! Wow, I didn't know there were so many, here, who'd been fans and/or seen them live.
