The Lyrics

Original song written by Paul Simon. Not the Senator who ran for President in 1988, and finished well back in the pack but still did better than Fred Thompson's doing now.
(instrumental opening)

He should've known
we'd bid him farewell.
There's a lesson to be learned from this
but he hasn't learned it well.

Now he knows he's not the freshest
face down in D.C.
If we never hear his name again
it's all the same to me.

And I think he's gonna be all right.
Yeah, his campaign's over now.
The morning paper's saying now
that Fred flubbed it all.

We never cared
for roles that he would play.
For him, it's just a casting call.
And we don't vote that way.

Always look for someone caring.
That's not who he is.
Law and order's what we want
but not a guy show-biz.

And I think he's gonna be all right.
Yeah, his campaign's over now.
The morning paper's saying now
that Fred flubbed it all.

His campaign's in the past.
He won't want to recall.
He got just one percent.
Even got beat by Ron Paul!

The rollercoster ride he took
is nearly at an end.
He's off the ticket, with his tears
and money he can't spend.

And I think he's gonna be all right.
Yeah, his campaign's over now.
The morning paper's saying now
that Fred flubbed it all.
Whoa-oh!
I think he's gonna be all right.
Yeah, his campaign's over now.
The morning paper's saying now
that Fred flubbed it all.

(instrumental close)
Cut! Print it! That's a wrap!

Bravo. Container and content both perfect. Would-you-believe-it-trivia: At a spring, 1966 concert I attended as a freshman at UVA, tho' in fact an opening act for S&G, the Cyrkle had on the strength of their hit with the Simon-composed song, been billed as the featured act. Sheesh. :-)
