The Lyrics

This is (by far) the easiest parody that I've done to date -- all I needed to do was change the word, "yellow" to, "purple". :-)
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines

So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In a purple submarine

We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine
We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine

And our friends are all aboard
Many more of them live next door
And the band begins to play

We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine
We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine

Full steam ahead, Mister Boatswain, full steam ahead
Full steam ahead it is, Sergeant
Cut the cable! Drop the cable!
Aye-aye, sir, aye-aye
Captain! Captain!

As we live a life of ease
Everyone of us (Everyone of us) has all we need (Has all we need)
Sky of blue (Sky of blue) and sea of green (Sea of green)
In our purple (In our purple) submarine (Submarine, ha-ha!)

We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine
We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine
We all live in a purple submarine
Purple submarine, purple submarine

Did Prince tell you to cover this song and substitute the word 'purple' in it, or what?

That would be an easy way to do a parody. Not particularly imagninative, but easy. I think I'll take on the challenge of "Sun River", "Green Christmas", "Going to the Temple", "Start in the Name of Love", and a few hundred more. Should be done by next week. Maybe I can top John Barry or at least Robert Arndt.

There once was a parody where the author had changed just one word and made it much, much funnier than the original song. I wish I could remember what the title was, but I was a noob at the time, did'nt even I knew I'd become a regular. The point is that it can be done (but in most cases, like this one, I can't see why it was).

But what was the comic point of changing one word from yellow to purple. Thete wasnt any, that I can see. I once did a parody of "Behind Blue Eyes" targeting Obama called "Behind Brown Eyes" ... and it was remarkable how much the lyrics described Obama to an O (from a right wing POV) you scarcely had to change a word. But that was the satirical point.
