Parody Song Title:

"Of Misused"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Since Tommy Turtle has me thinking about (of?) grammar these days, I thought I would attempt a parody about how "of" is incorrectly used. This parody is probably littered with grammatical inconsistencies, but I hope it is somewhat amusing.
[intro]

Of is misused
It's 'of'-ten abused!
Not 'off' man you fool!
I see.....
Of misused
Woe - of misused

Of is misused
I must HAVE it too!
You might BE a fool!
Don't say......
Must of too!
Woe - of's misused

Just what is of?
Belonging to
Use have not of
One's 'half' of two!*

Of is misused
It's 'of'-ten abused!
Not 'off' man you fool!
I see.....
Of misused
Woe - of misused

[harmonica break - which I am fond of
Oops! I meant of which I am fond!]

Of is misused
I must HAVE it too!
You might BE a fool!
Don't say......
Must of too!**
Woe - of's misused
Yeah of's misused

[fade out]

*In the South, "must have" sounds like "must of", "musta" and occasionally "must half". ** I think I used to, too and two correctly, though I'm not gambling on it. ;-)

555, I got good grades in English, but I wouldn't know. Heck, I didn't know there were two different spellings of "Stationary".

Ah!! My favorite garbled phrase, 'must of', Even in the South, most at least write it correctly. 5 fingernails on a chalkboard. ; )

Reminds me of the southern guy who got accepted at Harvard. Freshly arrived on campus, he asked a Boston Brahmin student, "Scuse me, but could y'all tell me where the library's at?" The Brahmin replied: "At Hahvahd, we do not end our sentences with prepositions." To which the guy replied: "Sorry, could y'all tell me where the library's at, asshole?" 15 Smoots, if you get my meaning.

HTF did I miss this one?? (still playing catch-up)... My bad, your/you're good... So, Red Ant has been converted to a grammar stickler, and the Devil is going to church every Sunday? Glory Hallelujah!... "Multum in parvo", taking a simple song and saying so much, including a personal pet peeve, "must of", or other cases where "have" is elided (cool word) to "of". The real trouble is that when it is said that way often enough, people start writing it that way two (lol). You've (you have) reached a new high, Jack (sorry!). Wish there were more than Fives to give to you.

I had some grammar parodies underway at one time, including a clarification of the troublesome "there/their/they're", but abandoned them after the "anal/nitpick" thread. Shall I dust them of? I mean, off?

Thanks Step-chan, Alvin, Pat, Paree Dee, John B, AFW, Stu, MrMac, Larry, Tommy Tutor (Turtle), and Peter. John:

Yep, ending sentences with "at" is something I am guilty of (from time to time). Funny joke.

Tommy Teacher: I would HAVE put more into this, but I couldn't find many ways that of is misused that also scanned to TOS. Grammar stickler? Not yet, though I am getting better at not butchering English. Oh, the Latin is lost on me, I didn't do too well in that subject.

"Much in little". There are Latin dictionaries on the Web, but for proverbs or famous quotes, usually just Google will do. Thanks again for prompting me to post the "there/their/they're" one.
Interesting use of this quote: 3w.macomb.com/mcgs/publications/multuminparvo.html

Of course, of and off are of-ten misused, which leads to some of us being pinged off, due to those who veer off course with their oft off-centre use, on and off, of off and of...
