Song Parodies -> "When I Shove Her"

Original Song Title:

"And I Love Her"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"When I Shove Her"

Parody Written by:

Arwen

The Lyrics

A little fantasy that plays in my mind when someone else grabs that last item on the shelf...which was the ONLY reason I came out shopping in the first place...
That girl just took my gloves
The last pair, too
The ones that I've dreamed of
What should I do?
I'll shove her

One wayward arm I'll swing
Her load I'll free
Timing is everything
She won't see me
When I shove her

My secret pow'rs
I've got to try
She shouldn't buy
She should fear me

Asked nicely, she'd decline
A trade for pie
Flesh wounds--no she'll be fine
And so will I
Gonna shove her

One of a kind design
Kiss them goodbye
Those mittens will be mine
Right after I
Go and shove her

Three things that nobody can deny about this parody: (1) The pacing is PERFECT, (2) Each verse rhymes to the corresponding verse of the original song; and (3) It tells a coherent, witty, and humorous story. For all of those reasons, I am giving this parody the vote of 5-5-5 that it absolutely deserves. Very well done, Arwen.

I'm absolutely with alvin - in fact I would trade 4 gloves for pie - but this one made me totally LMAO!! - I can just picture the little nasty shove you'd give her too Arwen, and that "Gonna shove her!" hookline is priceless! LOL! again - 555

The things we do for glove...

Oh, is Rex starting a running gag? OK... The power of glove is a curious thing. But nothing curious about this parody: Five fingers. Though Arwen may want to use only one on her opponent. You know, to fire off "elf lightning." And we love her.

As a man I can't really get into an argument with a woman over the last piece of ANYTHING in the mall, but I have my own way of getting revenge, when they look away I toss an extra item into their shopping cart, preferably something yucky like a can of Moroccan meatspiders in cuscus and shrimp sauce, and then I pray/hope that they don't discover it until they have already paid for it and gotten home. :-)

Oh glovely, a running gag. And a glovely parody too. A story about how glove conquers all. And we sure do 'glove' her.

Johnny...thanks a bunch. I'm shallow enough to appreciate 5s without any logistics...; )...but it's always nice to hear such nice things about my work...

Lucidlupin LeeBee...thank you very much. A person could do worse than to agree with Johnny when he's singing my praises. =)

carol...thank you VERY much...and don't be silly...=) One should never aspire for ones work to be like mine...for one would often be let down...(TOTALLY KIDDING)...welcome to the site!

alvin...tell me about it. You don't know what a struggle it was to offer up the pie in the first place. Thanks very much!

John...hehehe...my very favorite aisle...=) Thanks!

Stuart...=) Thank you very much. Nice to know I can produce beautiful moments of girl fight violence inside your mind's eye...

Rex...really for me it's just because she beat me to it. I might have picked them up and then decided that I hated them. It's about winning...

Michael...yeah, elf lighting...THAT'S what I'd be using that finger for. I certainly wouldn't poke anyone's eye out with it. Thanks, darling.

K1...gross! I think I'd rather get shoved...; )

2nz...thanks, sweetheart...=) I love it when you come around...

555. I agree with Johnny D. The song fit the OS like a glove.

No clever puns here, but I agree with everyone who already commented. 555 Maybe you should submit for SOTM next month? (I'm not the person to suggest that, though)

This one really made me crack up!! Every line was great! I didn't get to see this one on Friday; I took the day off. Anyway, before I place my usual 5-5-5 vote, I hope your Labor Day weekend wasn't too bad; mine was wonderful. :)

PMS...Hee...thanks a ton!

Dominic...thank you very much...depending on how dismal the rest of my September entries are (or...how few they are)...this might HAVE to be my SOTM entry...=) And, for the record, I'm always happy to hear such suggestions...

Kristof...right you are. I am thinking of having a series of 'Shove Her' parodies, chronicling all of the moments in life that push me toward my eventual breakdown...=) Thanks!

Serafina...thanks a lot. My holiday weekend was FABulous...I was camping with friends...=)

Well, I got The Beatles #1 this week and have been listening to it quite a bit, unfortunately this song is not on it. Funny parody and since I know you are particular about pacing (and given the 15 555 here) I'll add another vote. Of course they were your gloves, what was she thinking? ;-)
Arwen - September 06, 2005 - Report this comment
Red Ant...I appreciate your allegiance in the glove matter...it means a lot...=) And thanks for the trust on pacing...you pegged me. I don't care if people want to call me the least funny author on the site...my pacing is dead on, dammit...; )
Red Ant - September 06, 2005 - Report this comment
Oh, in response to your possible "Shove Her" parodies in the future, The Beatles have a great list: "Love Me Do" (Shove Her Too), She Love You (She Shoves You), "Can't Buy Me Love" (Don't Try Me, Shove!) and a personal farvorite, "All You Need Is Love" (Oh She Needs A Shove).

Of course, those are all on #1, so I'll check you on pacing. ;-) Not like you wouldn't come up with those on your own of course, but I'd like to see them, especially the last 2 in some form.

You offered her pie and she still didn't bend? That's ridiculous! She deserved that shoving, and another one after that just for good measure. Shove on girl!
Arwen - November 21, 2005 - Report this comment
Um...the truth of the matter might have been that I ate the pie before I could offer it to her, Ash...but she's still a cow.
