"Gibbons Aren't Monkeys"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

There's four genera; the phylum
Of these mammals is chor-
data. Yeah, they're primates,
Form a simian corps.
Lesser of apes, these; Happlorrhini they're not--
Turn their noses up at Rhesus,
A feces-flung snot.

And they go through the ape bit. . .
Sometimes go apesh*t.
Oh but those gibbons aren't monkeys,
Gibbons, gibbons aren't monkeys,
Let's watch 'em play.

Well, they peel off wood
Of trees on which they sit high,
Where goin' ape is easy--
Sounds like a deranged choir.
But unlike the monkeys that reside in the zoo
Apes are kinda dainty—
Don't throw at you their poo.

And they go through the ape bit. . .
Sometimes blow ape spit.
Oh but those gibbons aren't monkeys,
Gibbons, gibbons aren't monkeys,
Let's watch 'em play.

Well, they steel their wood,
And it's buttressed very high.
They're goin' ape when shes see--
Sound like a deranged choir.
Been a hard day; they've extended wood
Now they're gonna rejack
'cause ape babes up them stood.

And they go through the 'bate bit. . .
They palpitate it.
Oh but those gibbons aren't monkeys,
Gibbons, gibbons aren't monkeys,
Let's watch 'em play.

... but apparently those gibbons do love to monkey around. :-)

Entirely apart from its merit qua parody, this gets points for the memory it evokes of a day spent with girlfriend du jour at DC's National Zoo in lieu of school one fine autumn day in 1964. The solitary male mandrill (which is in fact a very large monkey), took one look at Cindy and commenced whooping and wanking _at_ her. No sissy she, Cindy claimed to be flattered by what she preferred to view as evidence of her boundless appeal. :-)

Stan
I've heard women were much more hairy back in the 60s. Could that have been the monkey's attraction?

Alternative joke: I hear that costs $20 in Tijuana.

I harken back to the classic Sesame Street footage of a gibbon swinging on his jungle-gym at some unidentified zoo to a jaunty piano tune. Lot of educational good it did me, now learning from John's work here that it ISN'T A MONKEY! 555 for the primal primate lesson.
