Song Parodies -> "I Got A Rock"

Original Song Title:

"I Am A Rock"

Original Performer:

Simon & Garfunkel

Parody Song Title:

"I Got A Rock"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

Those of you familiar with Peanuts should understand the relevance of the song's title to Halloween. If not, watch Charlie Brown go trick or treating. What a blockhead!

A low-bitrate mp3 of the song can be found here.
Await this day:
After Halloween, November
I am Chuck Brown
Gazing in my pillow-case for treats bestowed
I am crestly-fallen, pebbly things o’erflowed
I got a rock
I got some pyrite

Tootsie Rolls
Or Musketeers all trebley
Some Mounds would be so great
I have a need of nougats, choc’lates to obtain
It's taffy and it’s toffee sought in vain
I got a rock
I got some pyrite

Sis talks of love
Sally’s spurned the trek of yore
She’s seeking with the pumpkinry
She’ll be perturbed by blunder of keeping Linus’ side
But that sug’ry stuff she’d barter to be bride
I got a rock
I got some pyrite

No butterscotch
No confectionry - it rejects me
Unrevealded is the caramel
Candy not a crumb, not a stick of gum
No Hersheys fun, no, not one Hersheys be
I got a rock
I got some pyrite

Lollipops not attained
All my treats lapidified

Great stuff. Instead of MP3, why not just leave a YouTube link to the OS?

I always loved this movie... And I love Peanuts you've won me over with this one. Now I'm going to go sit in that farmyard and wait for the Great Turkey to rise out of the Hen House with his big bag of toys for all the good little girls and boys on Thanksgiving.

Excellent in all ways, as always. Loved eh line describing Sally's bartering of bonbons for bridehood.

First time I've ever seen the word "lapidified" in a song, or anywhere else.

Very cute, M & P production for sure ! Do they have Trick-Or-Treating in Austrailia?

Oh, wow, I just submitted a parody on the same title, OS, and theme! I think mine's better--at least, simpler. My third verse has the same topic as your third verse! Look for it tomorrow! I'll come back and rate your parody later.

What Alvin said! HallowedHO: No trick or treating in my day- but I feel it's catching on... btw there's only one 'i' in Australia ;)

Thanks everybody for your kind feedback :) Charles: 2 reasons: (a) often the lyrics can be different to those we have written the parody against, and (b) personally, I find that the vision of the Youtube clip distracts me from reading the parody.

Melanie: The more the merrier! Look forward to it :)

HalloweedHO: I actually disagree with mandamoo's reply to an extent. My take would be that there have been a number of failed attempts to make in catch on. My personal outlook is that i don't see the point. That being said, can anyone tell me, IS there a point?

I've read, I've rated, and I drop a 5-5-5 in your trick-or-treat bag! And what's the point of trick-or-treating? Originally, centuries ago in Ireland or thereabout, it was collecting food to sacrifice to ghost and spirits so that they wouldn't haunt people. Now it's the fun of dressing up as something you're not (or something you want to be), and the giving and taking of little treats, those "strokes" of recognition and uplifting that human beings love to give to each other. It's also a day for "breaking the rules", in this case, of accepting treats from strangers. Happy Halloween!
