Hello, freeway, here I am.
I’m going to try you once again,
Because I don’t know ano..ther way
To get to where I’m going..today.
Can’t remember how to use my GPS.
It’s the stress
Within the sounds…of slowness.

So now I’m in a traffic jam,
And I don’t know where I am.
Drivers scream what they real..ly feel,
Merging verbiage that could melt your wheels.
The cacophony won’t quit echoing in my ears;
It grinds my gears -
The lurching sounds…of slowness.

And through the morning haze I saw
Ten thousand scarlet lamps or more.
People honking without..thinking.
People napping without..blinking.
Someone cut me…off; it’s clear that they don’t care,
Like I’m not there;
Left in the sounds…of slowness.

“Ha!”, said I, “The car-pool lane -
That’s where lost time I will gain!”
Then I looked in my side..view mirror -
Flashing lights filled my heart..with fear.
But it’s fine; I’m still a lane away.
…I guess I’m good to stay…in slowness.

Such an awful noise it makes:
Revving engines, slamming brakes.
And the sign blinked out, “Just..ahead
You can take the off-ramp..instead”
But I know it could take even longer
Than sitting in this parking lot.
It’s all that I got.
I’ll sit here in the sounds…of slowness.
