"A Darker Grade of Ale"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

They rolled the dark oak barrel…
Out, hearing the uproar
There was cheering loud and thick
With the suds about to pour
The band was getting started
And a polka quickly played
When they tapped it o’er the dance hall’s sink
All its contents began to spray

And so in late… Oktober
All die Deutschen were regaled
And they staved their thirst for amber
With a darker grade of ale

Who says, “it is verboten?”
When the brew is ‘gut’ to drink
As I ponder like a belching bard
I don’t know why some would think
That the blackened barley frightens
When it’s just a richer roast
Even though it seems so black and white
They look like they have seen a ghost

And so it goes unsavored
Unknown terror still prevails
Fickle tastes, still thirst for amber
Spurning darker grades of ale

Some have a fear of molasses
Though it’s black it is sweet
It brings out rich details
And makes an ale complete
So won’t you just ask a German
Who has drank from the darker side
And they may reveal the myst’ry
That nothing else can provide

But who needs a persuader
When the flavor doesn’t fail
Trade your taste, and thirst for amber
For a darker grade of ale

If barley is the grain of choice
Then flavor reigns supreme
And whenever the light shines through dark
Then joy in brew is seen
And all of the naysayers
Seems to crumble like cornbread
So go gulp down a pint silly
And enjoy its frothy head

So make it soon not sooner
The bar tender holds the grail
Let you taste and thirst for amber
Turn towards darker grades of ale
