Song Parodies -> "My Guy"

Original Song Title:

"My Love"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Petula Clark

Parody Song Title:

"My Guy"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Actual OS recording, best sound quality, (title wrong!) "My Love". ... Live performances also at YT, but with audience screams distracting, a line varied, and last repeat omitted. Will stick to the original.

Song being re-worked: "My Guy".

My guy's a charmer; can't be torn from his arms
Even if you try
Guys, I'm immune from Number Nine Love Potion
Stuck like glue, am I
My guy: I'm stickin' like a letter's stamp
That's licked ev'ry night: sweet-heart
And there is nothing in this world
That could have us torn apart

Birds of feather: two, are we, and no one else will do
Doesn't matter what gifts you might buy
Can't tear me away from guy; I'll never be untrue
To my man, I would never tell a lie

You see, I gave my guy my word of honor
Never would deny
So I suggest that you had best be gone, or --
-- He'll send you "bye-bye"
My guy's not blighted by the slightest mar
And him, never would deceive
No, I'm not bluffing; keep my word
He, forever, can believe

Ask me my opinion? I will tell you my man is tops
To my taste, he's perfect, and it's real
Say sincerely: as men go, he's cream among the crop
In truth, in fact, my guy is my ideal

His love is stronger than a body-builder
Hand, could never pry
His looks are better than some lily-gilder,
Buffed of arm and thigh
To me, more handsome than a movie star
With strong, rugged, chiseled face
No, there is no man in this world
Who could ever take his place

No muscled six-pack abs or steroid biceps
Try, as hard as can,
No flawless face like gorgeous George T. Clooney:
Steal me from my man
On Walk Of Fame in Hollywood: own star?
Who cares? Apple of my eye:
There's only one man in my world
None can take me from ... my ... guy

I think this parody could have stood on its own as an original song, had Petula Clark used your lyrics.

WOW! Great song, TT! Patrick's right. it could stand on it's own as an original song.

*sniff sniff*... such a sweet, romantic song! I'm fairly overcome. ["My guy's not blighted by the slightest mar" is a particularly masterful match] 555

Patrick: Don't think I've ever received -- or even seen anywhere -- a higher compliment than that for a smoosh. (or for any parody) ... If you can sell it to Clark, the usual: 10% of all royalties :). ... Thanks for wonderful v/c -- to paraphrase your comment elsewhere today, it's inspiration to keep writing.

Mark Scotti: What TT said to Patrick. Nice to know one's hit the "mark" (so to speak ;), and even nicer when readers let you know that you have. Thanks!

Tish Hughes: (ROFL -- they just keep getting better and better!) I'd offer you a box of nose wipes, but unfortunately, can't afford to -- I was Kleen-exed™ (my ex Kleened me out). ;) .. Thanks for v/c, and keep on over-coming -- and maybe, coming over? :-D

Well, you're certainly 'buff of brain and wry' here! A great concatenation of tunes and sentiments here and I agree with Patrick re its 'saleability'. PS: Mr. Divrito (sp?) will be *so* flattered!

My Goodness! :)

TJC: Probably not salable in teweday's "mewesic" market, but thanks for the sentiments. ... AFAIK, Guy DiRito was dealing with personal/family issues for some extended length of time. We all miss him. (but I think he knows that this wasn't a trib to him, LOL!) Thanks for v/c!

Old Man Ribber: My badness is sometimes funny, too,... ;-D
