The Lyrics
On Wednesday, amiright published my 5000th parody—4755 under my name and 245 under various pseudonyms. When/if all six I submitted over the last couple of days appear, it’ll bring my total to 5006. As always, thanks to Chucky and his volunteers for managing the site over the years. And thanks to my former collegial contributors, especially Rick Duncan, who—along with a mutual acquaintance—brought amiright to my attention.
A long slog I have been on; quite a few takeoffs I’ve spawned—
some good, some bad, some so-so: 5,000 rhymes.
5,000 rhymes, 5,000 times, 5,000 writes on amiright.
The early days were go-go lots of the time.
Some had puns, some were rude; lotsa topics I explored.
Some were tossed off; some, more finely honed.
Some finely honed, some I bemoaned, some I deboned and then retoned.
Most done under the name that’s my own
Started working way back in amiright’s early days…
was crankin’ ’em out without delay
No delay, no belay; mo’ refrains, no restraints….
hit potholes on parody’s freeway.

From here on, once in a while…might write a rhyme.

I remember the time you posted 96 parodies in one day. Thankfully, that was not a farewell salute. I'd have to live a hundred years to write 5000. Or I'd have to write an awful lot in the time I have left. And, it would probably be a awful lot.
