| Original Song Title: | "Ramblin' Rose" |
| Original Performer: | Nat King Cole |
| Parody Song Title: | "Gamblin' Rose" |
| Parody Written by: | Tim Hall |
Sure makes Charlie Hustle truer than ever, doesn't it?
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
Did you do it, no one knows
Trapped in denial, working card shows
Who can admire a Gamblin' Rose?
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
Read the Dowd report and it shows
Associations that ruined you
As a result, your career's through
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
No more head first slides, heaven knows
If you had bet on your own team
The ramifications will make me scream
SPOKEN
One more roll, everybody now
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
Why we watched you, heaven knows
Come clean and Selig will admit you
So baseball fans will not feel blue
Did you do it, no one knows
Trapped in denial, working card shows
Who can admire a Gamblin' Rose?
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
Read the Dowd report and it shows
Associations that ruined you
As a result, your career's through
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
No more head first slides, heaven knows
If you had bet on your own team
The ramifications will make me scream
SPOKEN
One more roll, everybody now
Gamblin' Rose, Gamblin' Rose
Why we watched you, heaven knows
Come clean and Selig will admit you
So baseball fans will not feel blue

I have a soft spot in my heart for anyone that has the class to pull out Nat King Cole. What an artist! Pacing was a bit off, but you deserved higher marks than you're getting.
Until someone can redo Bette Midler's "The Rose," this is the best Pete parody on this site. Luckily, the catcher he crashed into in the '70 All-Star Game was Ray Fosse. If it had been Bob Fosse, Pete might already be immortalized in a musical, with Pete singing about Bart Giamatti, "He had it comin', he had it comin'..."
This parody deals head first with what Pete did Monday
Nothing to do with Pete Rose but this song brings back memories of a time when I lived in Japan. This was the first song that I remember hearing when I arrived in country. I was using ground transportation from the airport to my base. The radio was playing this song with a Japanese singer in English, singing "Lambling Lows". There must be another parody for this somewhere.
Tim, I liked the title and idea, not so sure about pace. I voted 4,5,5. Wish I'd thought of this. Good work.

Personally, I think Selig has been too hard on Rose, considering what some of the players in the Hall of Fame did -- including Ty Cobb who once punched a fan. And I think it was '91 that a movie about Babe Ruth came out, and turns out he wasn't a saint either. Some of these guys did far worse things than place bets. Still, i have to admit Rose was my favorite player in the '70s and '80s, and so I cannot be entirely objective. As for the parody, pretty good. Could be better in spots, but the title is irresistable. Keep working on it, it's a good idea. -- MM
Yes, there was a Babe Ruth movie starring John Goodman as the Bambino, but there was also a Ty Cobb film starring Tommy Lee Jones. Both films demonstrate that Rose's betting was not as terrible as some other sins could be.
