The Lyrics

Relatives, families and the country and fresh air
Our minivan was made to take us everywhere.

School let out for summer, sun was in my eyes
I grabbed my surfboard and I called up all the guys
Just then my mom announced that they had made some plans
We're going to travel in our minivan.
Ohhh no minivan...

Relatives, families and the country and fresh air
Our minivan is made to take us everywhere
We'll go to Branson and we're sure to have a ton
Of that good ole wholesome family fun.
Ole wholesome family fun...

My eyes grew teary and I raised such a protest
"It's non negotible - your father knows what's best!"
She reassured me with that hackenyed old line
"I'll have no more of any summer whine!"
No more summer whine...

Relatives, families and the country and fresh air
Our minivan is made to take us anywhere
You'll have more fun with us than with your hoodlum friends
It's how your at-ti-tude depends.
Noo - ooh hoodlum friends...

So we took off, got lost and rode through bleak terrain
And then the van broke down while there was pouring rain
So much for family values, schlepping summer through
I missed the luau in Malibu.
Luau in Malibu...

Relatives, families and the country and fresh air
Our minivan was made to take us everywhere
Our time together was much more meaningful
Making memories is wonderful.
So - oh wonderful...

Wasn't that fun?

I had some trouble with the pacing a in a few places, 2Eagle. But man, I laughed all the way through, that was great. Loved the back forth with the parents and the kid!

Thanks, Peregrin - it's not about rebellion. Kids just want time away from their parents.

Man, did that van go. Sorry.

Brings back memories of my brother's many minivans of the '80s and '90s- 555!

Danke, Herr Arndt - I used to make curtains for vans until they started using mini blinds.

My Chevy Van was a lot more fun....

The dreaded mini-van was a good vehicle for this vehicle. Concept worked well. Kudos. This song is an old favorite I'd like to tackle some time. Not sure about 'hackeneyed'. Was that a neologism to make the syllable count or a (shock, horror) ERROR?
