“News” they plied for years was very costly;
they sent millions off to their deaths.
Their confessions came too late for all the dead ones
from all that poison inhaled into their chests.

These butts are made for coughin’;
many victims were fooled.
Then the day came when they found that smoking is not so cool

Big Tobacco lied for years—there’s no truthin’;
against the science companies hedged their bets.
Had no shame an’ it was bullshit they were claimin’.
They said, “Just light up and keep buyin’ cigarettes.”

But butts were made for coughin’;
many smokers were screwed.
Then the day came the lies were out and the truth could be viewed.

They were wailin’, “It’s OK, the inhaling!”
And so tons and tons of the poison were burned. Hot.
But did they suffer any consequences? Few.
At least, though, finally the tables were turned.

Those butts are made for coffins—
filled were more than a few.
Even today, some folks puff poison. They ain’t got a clue.
